  1. What a awesome experience it must have been!!! Green with envy over here man.
  2. All the early sunday mornings at the swap meet finally paid off...I got a killer steal on a big Rock island (model #75) vise package deal...got the big vise, a Morgan 10A, small columbian anvil... all for 50 bucks!!! The big rock has a crack on the tail and the morgan is pretty much cracked all the way around the mount bracket but i figured the acme screw would be handy to have. The anvil looks pretty good to my eye.
  3. Imo it would be best if welded up a pyramid shape out of as thick of plate you can get your hand on then weld in rebar inside criss crossing then get a even heavier piece of plate thats wider to give you a good sized foot print. Set your pyramid on that then weld it down to the plate. Then go rent a concrete vibrator and pour your mud make sure no holidays in the mud. I dont know much about anvils per se but i know some about concrete. It breaks easiest when it has somewhere to go, if you can control that the concrete is strongest....but then again im a plumber lol
  4. This is a stump swage block ive been working on the last couple evenings. Im still not quite finished with it yet and i intend to band it when done. I got the ideas used on it from different posts on this site. I used a post from frosty for the router skid i know for sure. But the rest was gleaned from here and there. I've read so much i cant keep it all straight anymore lol. Tools i used was a straight bit and a chamfer bit on the router, and a few different ball peens dress a little. I drew the leafs on with a pencil then i used a blunted flat cold chisel to vein and a small ball peen to work it all out. I'm not sure if it will work out in the end but it was fun to do
  5. Looks awesome Tig very clean work!
  6. Seriously though... I think this is a battle better walked away from. I have a deal with my wife that i wont drag tools or parts into the house and she in turn wont pile her Totes in my garage...though at times we both test the borders at times
  7. You could always get a anvil for your wife...thats what i did, best trade i ever made ;) ..(haha.. that old joke works for anvils too )
  8. Thanks Micheal.. Thats exactly what i was looking for!! I think i would like to convert it back to a flat belt set up. That one in the pic you posted is pretty slick... I hope you get yours up and runnin soon!! Thanks again
  9. Me too. Gotta love the old stuff. I saw some of your collection on your smithy building thread. Very nice set up man.
  10. I was thinking on putting a elec motor on it if i can figure out what would be best as far as hp and speed goes...i have a old g.e motor tucked away ..its a SA 1/6 hp 1725. I used it to run a wire and grinding wheel on a pully
  11. I found the drill press today. The asking price is $110 .. I made a offer of 80.00 and im waiting to hear back from him. I can see there are some pieces missing but im not totally sure to what extent. But i figured i could find or make them. Is $110 a good price for this drill and also would any of you happen to know the year. The closest thing to a model # i could find at the time is 0.50 ..or maybe that is just 1/2 inch im not sure... Sorry for the poor pic quality, i took it with my phone in a dark antique store. Any help would be great. Thanks
  12. Thank you Dave! I didnt know Mark was so close. Ive watched the videos on youtube and heard great things about his books. Im going to check into his classes and the spring conference as well. Thanks again for the welcome!!
  13. Hello all. My name is Dale and i live in bakersfield california. Im for the most part a newbie thats been lurking around the site trying to absorb all i can of the great amount of information available here. My blacksmithing experience at the moment is limited to none at best, though i do have some metal working experience. At the moment i have a #112 NC anvil on nc stand. Im almost finished gathering parts for a coal/charcoal forge. Im inspired by Pug}{Mans forge ...the arched hood and pinstriping sealed it as I pinstripe as a hobby and will pinstripe anything that will stand still long enough. Thank you all in advance.
