  1. Greetings Ciladog,, Yep... I normally do things like that on my P6 flypress .. I designed a special hammer for chasing and repousse... Its one of a kind .. The table floats hydraulically and is controlled with the custom air hammer at the same time... And that just some of what it can do.. And that's no bull so to speak. JIm
  2. Greetings Again, Sure 40% down is fair... I use to feel bad but after a sting or two you get smart.... Lawyers get retainers.... Doctors make sure you can pay first... Anything custom on line must be paid first... We are DR. of metal ... Money down keeps everyone honest... If you don't want customers in your shop send them a picture of there work before completed and ask for the second 40%.. When I closed my shop I was a year and a half behind with my commissions... Great work demands price.... Just tell them its large jewelry.. Jim
  3. Greetings Ironman, I too trusted MOST OF YOU CUSTOMERS... When I ran my shop (retired now) my contract was simple.... 40% down on approved drawing 40% shop inspection pre finish (REQUIRED) 20% COMPLETION By requiring the customer to come to you shop before completed it works best and you catch any mistakes.. And get most of your money.... I hope this helps... no pay sucks... Jim
  4. Greetings Jim, You can buy a complete entry door lock set in black at Home Depot. Just use the parts you need . Do you want a locking bolt and a locking handle ? Jim

  7. Macbruce, Nope never took pictures... Same like yours but with a wedge... I use this system on many anvil tools . One that's super handy is one mounted to a monkey wrench for making collars and tight square bends... Its like a square bending fork with adjustment... Jim
  8. Greetings Macbruce, SLICK..... I use a similar system but I fold over a 1/4 X 1 in a hoop and use a wedge on the underside... No set screw... Try it youl like it... Forge on JIm
  9. Greetings Thinus, Ya gonna need a bigger wheel borrow.. I think that one would look best in my shop... Glad you saved the old girl Lucky you Jim
  10. Greetings Zanshin,, Someone before me said it best.... NOW THATS A KNIFE.... Fantastic craftsmanship and design... Keep them coming. Jim
  11. Greetings Kurgan, Nice system... Get your stump up to working height so you don't have to bend over ... Belly button high works well.... Most oxygen tanks are made out of tool steel ( 4140 ) shine them up and sand to a mirror finish... I use them all of the time and they work well.. Good luck and keep forging Jim
  12. Greetings Thin, Looks like a Wilkinson to me.... Look for the crossed hot dogs... For sure early English Jim
  13. Greetings Bill, Great repair... I spent 32 years in the auto related business and owned my own shop for 20 years... Funny story... I had a customer call me and said he needed a emergency brake on his truck.. It was real bad and he needed help quick.. I told him I would send my tow truck but he said he would get the truck to me.... In he came a smoking ... He was a carpenter and had fashioned a brake pad out of a 2x4... Just goes to show the more skills we have the more that is possible... Carry on Jim

  17. Greetings Preston, Way over the top work... It's fun when you have clients that appreciate craftsmanship . Jim
  18. Greetings Copilot, Looks to me more of a coldshut from the original forging process.... Look in side the hardie hole for signs of cracks... Also looks like someone tried to put a little butter on one spot.... I think I would use this as a serviceable anvil as it is... I hope this helps.. Jim
  19. Greetings Preston, Welcome..... Your table is over the top way cool ... Very original ... It's great to see fresh ideas and procedures... Keep them coming.. Jim PS I would like to keep you around for a while ... When you post a picture of yourself ( wear safety glasses )
  20. Greetings Sean. You could try using a sabre saw . Cut a metal cutting blade short to limit the travel and have at it.... If its cast it won't take long.. It will at least limit file time... Good luck Jim
  21. Greetings Sean. You could try using a sabre saw . Cut a metal cutting blade short to limit the travel and have at it.... If its cast it won't take long.. It will at least limit file time... Good luck Jim
  22. Greetings Cwat, Sounds to me like you are building a smoke tube .. What makes you think the smoke won't come out the ends... I suggest a drawing before you get to involved.... I always applaud new thinking but I need more detail.... Jim
  23. Greetings Bois, Once you have a taste of metal work its a lifelong journey.... Encourage your son to continue... Most///// ALL blacksmiths are the most giving and honorable people you will ever meet..... Find a local group and let him run.. Funny thing ... Most of the young students I have start well BUTTTT after , they have a hard time getting any forge time in. Yep Dad gets hooked.. My suggestions are as follows. Keep the boy and cherish every moment... Burry or dismantle the forge. It will only eat up money and is more dangerous than smaller models... You can make or purchase a small propane forge for under 300.00 Don't mess with junk.. Forge on Jim Forgot: Also purchase a book called A blacksmith Craft by George Dixon.... Best for starters
  24. Greetings again Keith, I think all you need to do is lower the feed and see if you have enough shaft length to use a slip on bolt lock hub like the picture from Champion... I think someone just tapped an existing hole.... Good Luck Jim
