  1. Weird.... I bought a cast Lorance firepot simply for the fact that they are essentially unmeltable at 1" thick
  2. Well, I have cranked out a few blade that are just about ready for heat treat - Here's a few pics:
  3. Please read post #7 before any other math guesses - THE BILLET IS 90 LAYERS!
  4. Very nice lines and style
  5. Thanks guys --- I really put this blade to test while camping this past weekend. Whittled until my arms were sore, chopped tons of branches and just basically pushed it to see how edge handled things. Back at home after weekend, it would still cut hair and paper with ease.
  6. 5160 with Krinite scales 10" OAL Stainless pins
  7. Thanks for comments - I have done both high layer counts (250ish) and lower layers and I prefer the definition of lower counts
  8. How are you getting design o blade? It looks nice - I like it
  9. Smokechaser - There is an existing thread about touchmarks. Stampman is in it and works for CMT - Great company to deal with: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>
  10. @Jacob - Not derail thread, but I am also the proud owner of an early Bronco - Leaf springs have hardened very well for me using canola oil around 120 degrees = Here is bronco and a machete made from an leaf spring off an early bronco I bought for parts
  11. This knife had my logo stamped in it with a custom stamp from CMT - See my avatar! I do etch as well and have an old etcher that works fairly well - I buy a commercial acid for use with it.
  12. Roger is an awesome gentleman and I believe over 75 years old - I just purchased and installed one of his firepots and they are incredible. Call him at 309-475-9012 (best way to reach) here are photos:
  13. Thx for all of the replies - I learn a little more with each one I do!
  14. This one was striking before I even etched it - these two pics show detail right out of quench tank when hardening it
  15. Here is my latest - 90 layers 1095, 1084 and 15n20 - Spalted maple burl - OAL - 6" Handle 2 7/8" Blade tip to sclaes 3 1/8"
  16. Bear in mind, unless you have a method for storing in a very dry environement, it will likely just absorb moisture again and do the same thing. Humidity will feed vermiculite.
  17. I would like to see pics of this as it progresses - Seems like neat idea.
  18. Here's where I am with the small section I cut off and have drawn out - Can work on a couple knives now. Has a ladder pattern
