  4. steve i was trying to use my head for something other than a hat rack. i had seen a lot of other steels herebe better by triple ht process. if i am wrong in this assumtoin pls correct me. i have basicly no idea what i am gettin into
  5. here is what i know about 02 its an oil hardening steel and i plan on doing the triple normalize triple harden then triple temper but can i oven temper? if so how long? if not what is another way to temper? if yall have any critics about my planned process let me know i haven't started on the blade yet just doing research i found another link here about 02 but it didnt really address the temper issue (unless i shoulda bought the book) thanks ahead of time
  6. i had started grinding on it but my friend rhett bugged me till i heated it up and twisted it. when i heated it up again it turned dark colored again so i had to try to shineit inside the twist. this is my first that was twisted it was a learning experience for shining up inside the twist so i bought a dremmel 7700 but i still couldnt get all the grinder marks off of it.

  13. well this one isnt excatly portable but i suppose you could downsize it and bolt it up and it would work i know i am just a newbie here and you can take this how you want to this is just an idea to think about dad helped me make this table/forge http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/28012-my-coal-forge/ sry about the double post my internet wasnt working well

  15. i havent been to anykind of scrapyard yet but will keep that in mind i shined it up the other day with a wire brush on a grinding wheel they look good to me but it could be i am coming from the wrong angle with my looking i hae made several more to give away and i also sold one at 5 daollars according toRT that is a good starting price thanks for your comments
  16. i did have to add more sand it really packed tight and hasnt settled afterwards so i am happy with it go ahead there PUGHMAN its here for the taking
  17. the reason i couldnt have this one longer is it would be too thin, and the pieces were scrap from some other job
  18. the first isnt quite done yet its a left handed one i need to put a handle on it yet i might make the next one out of thicker steel so i can have it longer this is the right handed one its about 14 in. long made out of 3/8 round stock
  19. since i had a topic about my forge on ifi i didnt know for sure if i should post here or not i think i will though there are holes in the four in pipe under the firebox i tried to get a pic of them but doesnt look like it turnud out so good
  20. ok got it all set up now and i also painted my forge clayed the firepot not that it needed it too much but was worried about the front it kept scaling changed the blower and made an anvil stand just need someone to help me get the anvil on it proly will get someone this eve just need to build a roof over head that wont get in the way of dad 30 ft wide hanger door which isnt shown here
  21. ok just need someone to help me put the anvil on it then am ready to run again i used 90percent clay and the rest sand on the top hope it wont settle too much i packed it with a hammer first then put the plate on top and beat it till it bent a litle so i dont think it will settle much had water in there too
