  1. Tee shirts wear out and get forgotten.......Tattoo is the only answer. Great work once again my friend, almost seems strange to see one of your creations wrapped in leather. Nice!
  2. Nice to see some stuff coming out of the shop Steve! The spacers worked out dandy! Love the pattern as well.
  3. Just bought 01 for the same reason! To make knives that is....... :)
  4. Chalk will fill the low spots of the file and make it cut smoother. It acts as a pad and the file can't cut as deep.
  5. Couple tips I got that were real helpful....1. Tilt work down and away from cutting direction to allow cuttings to fall away from work, 2. When draw filing if tang is in right hand it's a push cut....in left hand it's a pull cut. Only apply pressure while cutting, if you keep pressure on the file while pulling back it will break off teeth and give you bad draggers. As mentioned above read the knife making lessons Steve and Rich have compiled. there is a ton of good stuff there. Also take heed on all other suggestions above. It may also be a poorly dressed hammer that is causing these "Forge Marks", there is no substitute for good hammer control. There are a pile of ways to prevent that too.....too many to list....they are already typed somewhere on this site. Good luck and forge on.....Did I mention we like pics. :)
  6. That's cool....very good for a second
  7. Once again nicely done! Looks good laying next to that hawk!
  8. Cool, The bronze comes off nice. Nice job.
  9. If this is number 3 can't wait to see what the future holds. Nice work. Keep them coming!
  10. Cool can't wait to see what this will become!
  11. I can't imagine using the words hand made and dishwasher in the same sentence........Cringe. Your shop your ruiles! :) Like someone mentioned above I wash Immediately after use in hot soapy water and then dry. All my handmade kitchen knives are either Pattern Welded or High Carbon steel....They have developed a nice Patina and are not rusted. If taken care of HC knives will last for generations. Have fun and show pics.....we love pics!
  12. Nice job and even cooler gesture! I bet he's a happy man!
  13. Cool project. I have dabbled with the idea of Pattern Welded scissors and this helps to inspire.....Thanks for sharing Nick.
  14. Some of the suggestions you read above I took a while back and have had great success with twists. Lots of heat and flux for me. If one of those high spots decides to roll over on itself there will be flux in there and it will weld when you flatten it out.....do it cold or without flux and you will have failures. I treat every operation of a twist just like a weld and have good luck! Cheers and have fun!
  15. Yeah Scott Scandi refers to the grind type....typically shorter steeper bevels for a camp/survival knife. The steep angle on the bevel will not make as good a slicer but will take punishment better than a thin flat or hollow grind. Chinobi ...the last few blades I'd posted didn't have the touchmark because I made them when I was in AZ and couldn't get to my shop for snow....Dang winter. I regret not having it when I was there but it happens! Thanks for the positive feedback guys!
  16. I do....will post a pic of leather when done.....Thanks for the compliments.
  17. Good to hear sir.....Forge on!
  18. If your tanks are cold there will be no evaporation in your tanks. Try keeping your tanks in a warm place before going to forge. The faster the fuel expands to vapor inside the tank the colder it will get......Try drawing fuel from one tank till it cools off then swap to the other tank......the delay may allow the other tank to warm up enough to give good evaporation again!....Keep us posted. I run a single burner with a 20lb tank on a 30PSI regulator...........
  19. 5160 blade steel, NS Guard with black and stainless spacers. Dyed Box Elder Burl. My first Scandi grind as requested by customer. This knife has not been nitpicked yet, but, this will be only chance I have to share before it goes to the owner. If I get better pics I will share. Thanks for looking.
