  1. Looks to me like you know what is happening and why.....The curve I meant to be parallel with the anvil face.....Could tell you that you're not striking flat.
  2. Nice looking blade right there. If your getting out of square on a billet turn it on a 45 and whack it back into shape. A lot of guys are afraid of hitting across the weld grain in fear of delam......If it opens up it wasn't a good weld in the first place. Reweld and keep on going.....not only does it get the billet back to square it will give you confidence in your welds. I have had to do this on a lot of billets. It should also be telling you something about how you're striking the billet.....Do your billets curve as well......hit flatter... they stay square. I have had these issues in the past and in the future, I just don't know it yet! Cheers, Darren
  3. Come on up and visit any time John! Thanks for the compliments!
  4. The blade shines....I gave it a dark background when taking the pics so you could see the hamon......But it was etched in Ferric Chloride. Thanks
  5. That anvil is carved from sandstone. A good friend of mine is a stone sculptor and made a replica of one of my anvils in stone. It's in our garden!

  11. Sheath all done.....horizontal or vertical carry...any thoughts welcomed. Got a better pic too after all nitpicking was done.
  12. Hamon is nice and active....what is it that you mean by peeling off layers?....I made one similar Theo and found the handle to blade to lengthy....Hard to get any leverage when the blade is that far away from the grip.
  13. Steel combo is .030" 1095 and .003" Nickel 201. 10:1 thickness ratio.....makes a bold contrast indeed. Thanks for the kind words guys.

  15. They are a fine looking pair, Love the patterns John.
  16. Tempering colors are simply oxides that form on the surface of the material, depending on the material it will indicate how hot you got the material. These colors will rub off real easy.....unless you clear coat or something these colors will not stay.....put on on a shelf or behind glass they will last forever. But if you plan to use the piece....They will disappear. Have fun!!!
  17. Hamon learning curve.....6" blade and 5" handle
  18. Bolster material is micarta insulator from a 350 Megawatt Hitachi generator. Thought it should remain in the electrical field......see what I did there! :)
