  1. I cleaned up my Kohlswa 75 today, and I was wondering what the "1" stamped on the bottom meant? The first casting of a mold, the serial number (I'm 99.999% sure it isn't), or just a number? Then I got sick of my Fulton 75 being to tall and broke the wleds holding it to its stand, it has either a "12", or possibly a "17" on one side. Wondering what it meant.
  2. THe Champion logo on the front of the blower housing goes back to the company owner, (whose name escapes me) died in 1920, so the blowers without the enscription on the front are older, thus forth, amybe harder to find, I've found 3 with the Champion faceplate, and bought the one without it
  3. I'm asking $250 for it publicly, and $150 on here. Its got the stand and all, I'm waiting on Farmall to email me back
  4. Champion 400 Blower, doesn't say "Champion" on the bottom the fan housing front, it says "No 400", its a Champion blower and forge co. blower typical patent dates and all, why doesn't it have the cursive Champion wriitne on it? Is it an odd ball? Does it make it more valuable? Whats it worth?
  5. How about $2.67 a pound? HOw about $200 for it? I boughts me another anvil. Kohlswa Sweden 75lb, needs 1 hjour of work
  6. It all depends if I can get the money out of savings to buy the steel, or get the money loaned from family
  7. I'm thinking about maybe a mechanical hammer for aesthetics, due to its going to an AG Mech show in San Antonio, if I build it, air hammers from what I understand can be tempermental
  8. Yeah, my deal is I'm not legally old enough to drive a car or truck. But I can drive a peice of industrial machinery to wherever no problems. I love stupid laws. I found 2 old forges on craigslist in a picture of some stuff in a materials page. I will own one of them
  9. 3 of the anvils, I saw, and they have the reddish-brown patina that stee/iron gets when it's hot all over for a good amount of time. (LIke a micro thin shell of scale) And I have no use for a toasted vulcan anvil, I need a round horn, not a squarish one
  10. The trip hammer I'll check into tomorrow. I'll have to sell some stuff first, and most of my stuff I bought for a reason, but the hammers worth more than my crap. Even if I have to b-o-r-r-o-w money (GHAST!!! I SAID B-O-R-R-O-W)
  11. Theres 8 anvils, and 3 of them were in a fire, un-tempering them, and the others are a bit small for what I want. I didn't know the value of the tongs, and I'm gonna check into teh trip hammer
  12. I offered him $200 cash right then, 2 BENJAMINS for something HE GOT FOR FREE!!! Alas, my offer will stand, until I find another one. Yes I need a bigger anvil, I have a 75lb Fulton on a stand that'd easily support 1,000 pounds. (God bless auctions). I wanted another anvil, because I have a buddy that wants to do some blacksmithing, and I can't let him be at my house everyday. So I was gonna buy him an anvil.
  13. I have looked hard, and found few, and the few I've found, were severely worked over with a welder, or waaaaay outa my price range. He said $300 and it'd be mine today
  14. How much is a 75lb Kohlswa anvil worth? Is $300 to much? Anvils in my area (anysize) are pretty rare, and fromwhat I understand Kohlswas are up their with the best, It's in 95% condition
  15. My main forge flipped over, onto a pile of scrap on the firepot lined with fire cement (after winter) Tractor Supply had their kiln/coal heater liner cement on sale for $1 a tub. (Roughly a pound) I bought 6 of them to use, but their was probably 20. Short of it is I used the stuff exactly as the instructions said, and when it flipped, all it did was knock off a few of the little flecks that were made when I smoothed the cement with my fingers. As an idea, if you can find a cast iron drain, or a cast iron pipe main line reducer, cut it off with a band saw, and center the flared part around the tuyere, and line underneath it with fire cement, or clay.
  16. I'm thinking an entire air-powered blacksmith setup compressoer, air hammer, blower setup to a turbine
  17. As the title above says, I'm thinking about making a power hammer, for my AG Mech welding class. I don't really know anything about bulding one, but its what I want to do. I really don't know all the technical stuff about it, but would an air hammer be better over a mechanical one? Or vice versa? Whos got good plans to gather info from? It cannot be built off of purchased plans, but the designs can be based off of designs I'll probably have to make CAD diagram of it for my teacher.. Which would be easier to build, helve, mechanical, or air? I'd like to make an air hammer, to use in the shop, but what kind of pressure would I need? What kind of base, and area would I need? I have alot of questions, but I have until December 1st to have it in final stages of building.
  18. Alright, I'll get a pciture of it tomorrow
  19. Bought a flatter today, its stamped E.T.W. (It may be a Y thats been miss-stamped), with a 6 above the E.T.W. Is this a hammer some smith made, or is it a brand? She struck ends pretty mushroomed, but the face is pristine.
  20. Thats what I do, I buy broken blowers when I find them, (which is pretty rarely) the lost one I bought was a Champion 400, the brass worm-drive gear is worn to thin teeth. The local coolege machinest said, if I paid for the brass puck, he'd make the students make the gear. Most of the forges I find, are homeade, not worth very much, but the next smal one I find will be made into my mini table. Lots of rivet forges come out of the wood-work, but usually are cracked, or badly damaged
  21. I have 2 forges at the moment that are operable. One is a champion cast iron table forge, with a fire brick, and mortar firepot, one with an homeadeforge, with a 12 by 24 rectangular firepot. And two rivet forges I need to go get, and 6+ blowers, I've been offered? If I buy them and sell them, would I make a decent profit?
  22. I have a 1 by 32 from hrabor freight, it works pretty well, it needs the platten straightened, or wrapped in friction-less fiber, I have a Delta 1 by 32 with a 5 inch disc, (it works about as well as the harbor freight one), and an old sears and roebuck co. 4 by 32, with 8 disc. (took the disc off, that thing spinning sharpening a knifes, a bad idea)
  23. LIke what items? Hammers, tongs, anvils, vices, nails, feathers, paper clips? Or made stuff?
