  1. You must be unique, I don't know anybody who has done that <G>
  2. I learned the hard way about safety glasses picking raspberries, a cane snapped back and a thorn got me in the eye. Very painful and a good week with a pirate patch and putting salve in it.
  3. having used one before I would buy it. There are many creative things you can do with it. Tooling is cheap and the learning curve is fast
  4. you can always check fly tying supplies to see if they sell what you need for small quantities
  5. Stone the flutes dull , I used to drill copper buss bars and we used special sharpened drill bits for this. The main thing is they were actually ground flat on the flute. This can be accomplished by stoning on a small drill bit
  6. Being from NY am sure the tongue lashing was something unprintable on this family web site
  7. I prefer traditional measuring tools to digital, easier to use. We had one guy that hoarded the shop digital measuring tools because he couldn't do the math to use the others. This is like a cashier that can't count change if the electronic register doesn't tell them what it is.
  8. got to watch out for the porcupines eating the seats, I don't like splinters
  9. He has a big hole in his backyard next to his forge that he can bury stuff just to tease all
  10. Have you looked into 3M they have rolls of micro finishing tape which comes in various widths and grits down to 1 micron or finer. it is wet or dry with a very durable backing. they also have diamond grit tape
  11. Iron feather according to Google translator
  12. This hammer belongs to Dick Rightmeyer long time forgemaster for the Genesee chapter of NYSDB It is in good sape
  13. We had one gentleman in our forge group that built one and kept the treadmill controller. It worked great.
  14. They make a micro chuck that allows very sensitive hand control for small drills these are put in your regular chucks. I have used these in both manual and cnc mills Micro-Sensitive Drill Feed Adaptor - Micro Drill Adaptor with Albrecht Keyless Chucks http://www.nolansupp...alse&specs=True
  15. No matter how you look at it we have lost what made this country great and that was our manufacturing ability. If there was a war who will do the manufacturing for us?
  16. When I was an apprentice toolmaker we had to make our own punches. We use O1 and a heading fixture. Most of these were 1/4" and smaller but the principle is the same as riveting. We used a 8 ounce ball peen hammer to cold form the heads. The metal slowly moved down into the heading fixture and expanded. We did hundreds of punches this way so I know that the cold forming can be done rather easily once learned.
  17. Try thinning the web and changing the angle of the point to 135 degrees
  18. I always wear them while picking raspberries also. A lesson learned the hard way by ending up with a scratch on my eye from a thorn. Very painful for about a week.
  19. I found a blower to some kind of outdoor decoration, it even has a ground fault on it, that pushes enough air for 2 forges at the recycle center for free
  20. It is not uncommon to have to drive that distance and time. I go to 3 meetings a month at different places. They are about 65 miles from my home. The wealth of knowledge is worth the time, also you might get a good line on tools and supplies. Give them a try you have nothing to loose but a few bucks for gas
