  1. Ok all, I am the frugal type, my wife would even say miserly and at times cheap I have been through the blueprints several times and have found many great ideas. I have an abundant supply of RR spikes and I am fishing for ideas and also would like to see what kind of imaginative things others make with this simple, economical (cheap as in FREE!) resource. Thanks Steve

    How about a closeup?
  3. The sockets can be cut off and make forming tools for flowers and such. You would have four different sizes. That takes care of one, I don't know what to tell you for the other 24:D Thanks Steve
  4. Looks like a good start! I see your artistic abilities already shining:) that anvil is very old judging from lack of prichtel hole and no step as you approach the horn. It has seen better days, but is probably near to 200 years old so plenty of character! It will serve you well as you learn, when you finally upgrade anvils be sure to set that back in a place of honor. I have a Very old Mousehole anvil, that I rescued. Whenever I take a few minutes of rest, I look to look over at it and wonder about it's history. Steve
  5. An object like a tomahawk would be very difficult to cast as there are tapers going multiple directions. With that being said, the easiest way to tell a casting is the parting line where the two halves of the mold met. If there was good cleanup and finish this detail may be obscured and not evident. Second thing is to look at the profile, most early casting require a fair degree of draft or taper if you will to allow the original mold form to easily be withdrawn from the mold. So look for a design that has taper in only one direction. Also with casting, small crosssectional areas sometimes do not turn out so well, so look for a beefier/meatier design. While these thoughts are not a know all, be all and there are always exceptions, these geberal thoughts can identify most castings. thanks Steve
  6. Thanks for the info, I have been keeping my eyes open for one. Thanks Steve
  7. Problem with climb milling is that the cutter has a tendency to catch and walk on the part or pull the part out of the setup/vice/holders...
  8. WOW! Beautifully simplistic, I am at a loss for words...
  9. SfDuck, pleasepost and share! Thanks Steve
  10. I beg to differ my friend, you ARE an artist!

  12. I also have been keeping an eye out for one of these for the same reason. Anyone have experience modifying the controls on one of these? I can think of a dozen that I have seen along side the road on trash day, but now that I am looking for one, they have become very scarce. LOL Thanks Steve
  13. Thanks for the thread Rich! I try to learn something new everyday and I believe that when I stop learning, it will be because I am dead:o
  14. Ouch, someone was watching out for you that day! Thanks for posting so that others can learn from your mistake. Steve
  15. Well another banner week, I ran across about a dozen Hardy tools, an equal number of specialty hammers for SCA type stuff some 2" rollers for my 2" X 72" grinder, a sheet metal spot welder, a 5 1/2" post vice and a bunch of other misc. stuff. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Steve
