  1. It's got a nice shape to it. I'd take the time to straighten and smooth things up witha hammer though, and chamfer the corners. Still, looking good!
  2. Thats seems to be the most common. Found a lot of them nothing with the clamp onto a pipe perpendicularly type end. must be worth 50X as much ;)
  3. Thanks. I know there has to be others of this type out there. Thought maybe my google fu was weak. Been looking all day and haven't found anything like it. Lots of Midway ones with the 90 deg gear box.
  4. I recently picked up a champion blower that Dad had laying in a corner. All but 2 balls are gone from it and the tabbed washerlocknut and tapered bearing seat are missing from the one side, I assume. If I can find a tap 1/2-24NS I 'm pretty sure I can make a taper and a nut. Does anyone have pics of what I may be missing in there? The number of balls per bearing and maybe a little more info on what this blower is. The spiral gear needs a little dressingand the one end of the shaft is a little dimpled from bearing damage nothing that can't be smoothed out. Pulled it a part and found a set screw rolling around in the bottom, was from the lower gear set. One disaster avoided. Thanks for the Help Guys
  5. A needle scaler textures the surface nicely and makes thing look a little aged in a hurry. Kinda matches the pitting from moderate rust. Find it works well for covering up patch jobs on various things that aren't meant to be noticed. A light dusting of paint and it's been there forever
  6. then it begets the question, if the aircraft carrier is in water , does it dampen the anvils ring?
  7. Leaves/handles are quite pleasing. the blades just need to be a little more refined
  8. Track of the Wolf has a sale on gunsmithing books for those interested. http://www.trackofthewolf.com/ lots of cool stuff there. Wish I had a bunch of spare cash right now...
  9. swordforum.com has a ton of sharp pointy info
  10. book 5 of the firefox series has all the blackpowder stuff in it
  11. shape of it almost makes me think of a bead breaker for tires of some sort. interesting item though
  12. uhmmm... lost my thought. but Might be best to cover with a canvas tarp then it breathes and less condensation collects, same as keeping old cars in bars an such.
  13. I 've made several by chucking a 7/32" chainsaw file in the cordless drill, then grind to shape on the bench grinder. Draw a temper on the back 3/4 of it so it doesn't snap to easy. Polish with fine sand paper. Then you just drill an undersized hole in a piece of hardwood. Clamp in vise drive wooden handle on. Stay sharp last good and cheap if lost. use a few at work for o-ring picks and poking holes in oil filters on the trucks.
  14. what about using a laquer? much the same as japanese armour. or a clearcoat of some sort with a touch of colour added?
  15. this was further on after the the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5noM1NnXeE after it's forged it'll need a heat treat
  16. That is one simple, elegant knife. I truly like it. very well executed!
  17. I wonder just what the carbon content of the waste igots off the sides are unless thats all slag? could be close to to wrought.
  18. was thinking the same, one hand on the forklift control
  19. http://meiersteel.com/main.html Might a place to ask about pattern welded steel. All the bladesmiths think he's a guru in the sword forums. I'm sure he's made billets for slides at some point.
  20. Thanks for posting your process Steve. Might help me out with a few projects I have in mind.
  21. any wood thats local that makes a good bow will typically make good hammer handles. theres no reason that ash won't work well for you. I've been making my handles out of black locust that I had collected for my other hobby. I just cut down a 6-8" dia tree and split into billets. Carve out a handle shaped object with drawknife and rasp.
  22. . Very elegant! I would love to have . now I'm going to have to try something similiar. more stuff in the projects list. 3 piece handle if I'm not mistaken?
  23. What do they farm for food? is there a life cycle on a fungi or other under ground animal that is a regular food source. could get seasons that way. another thought is the gestation period of a dwarf as a year or part of a year
  24. I like the the tides idea. large underground aquifers are going to rise and fall. Heck even the smaller ones do. Was talking to a guy that worked in where a new housing development was being set up. Witching and drilling wells varied with moon position or so he says. As well larger water wheels would make for time pieces. Discover channel had a show on ancient technologies and the ? chinese had a large gear driven clock that did minute hours days weeks years, as well as planting and harvest times moon cycles. Any dwarven smith guilds worth thier ale would have something similiar built as a presentation piece for thier royalty.
