  1. LOL. Funny how things can hide from us, right there in the shop. I've found a couple of things that were a slap on the forhead and "xxxx, I forgot I had this. :D
  2. I'll probably make a knife blade, if I get time to get the billet made. I'm making up stock to sell at a demo I have coming up in two weeks, So I'm not working on it just yet. I'll post more pics when I get time to work it up. :)
  3. Forgot to put up the pics. I got some 1" X 1", 5/8" X 1 1/2", and some 5/8" and 3/4" round. You got a good deal on your stash. :)
  4. Are you sure about the material that the rods were made from? I got some bridge stringers, last year, and it broke similar to what yours looks like, after cutting about half way thru. But I forged it out and intentionally let it lose color while hammering. It split open. It was wrought iron. :)
  5. Yeah, Larry is correct. I just posted a picture that is 800X600 pixels. It worked. :)
  6. Well, I finally got some of the chainsaw chain cut and tacked together with a handle. Now i just have to find/make time to try to forge weld it into a billet. Eleven pieces 10" long. Sorry. The picture came out a little blurry. :(
  7. I finally got two pair of Grants OCP tongs. I only wish that I had got them while he was still with us. I miss his posts.
  8. WOW!! That is going to be a beauty when you get finished. I, too, am looking forward to seeing the finished product. Thanks for sharing. :)
  9. WOW!!! Great looking knife. Thanks for sharing the pics Rich. :)
  10. Yes, please do re-take the picture. I have a bunch of chainsaw chain and i'm going to try some different patterns with it. :)
  11. John, looks like you folks had a great time. I love the elephant head. Tom, the letter opener looks nice. Good job. Thanks for sharing the pics. :)
  12. I agree with OddDuck. I welded aluminum truck tanks for years and I don't think that you will transfer enough heat to the table to worry about. It may get hot, near the pot area, but shouldn't get hot enough to melt or cause you that big of a problem. Aluminum is a very good conductor of heat. If it gives you trouble, like burning your hand, just line it like OddDuck said. You already have the table. You might as well use it. My two cents. :)
  13. Sounds like you'll be up and running real soon. That's a good thing. I'm sure that you will have a lot of fun getting set up and finally getting everything working. You need to plan on coming up north of you, a few miles, to Pinkneyville, ILL In August. Stan (aka trying-it) has a hammer-in at his shop, the third weekend of August. This year's dates are Aug 18th and 19th. It is held during the Thresherman's show. It's always a good time and you'll get to meet several of the guys from IFI there. Hope that you can make it up there. Welcome to IFI. :)
  14. GREAT find. Glad to hear that you will be up and running in the near future. I look forward to seeing some of your projects. Thanks for sharing the pics. :)
  15. That took a lot of work. It looks great. Thank you for sharing the pics with us, and welcome to IFI. :)
  16. Could have been used as an upsetting anvil. I have a round piece very similar to this, without the legs, that I place on the ground by my anvil and drop the end of a rod on it to upset the end. :)
  17. That's a pretty cool pattern. Looks good. Thanks for posting. Don't forget to show us the finished piece. :)
  18. Nice heavy duty vice. Ya done good, Wayne. :)
  19. Looks similar to the forge that I use at the historic site. Only the one that I use is reversed from that, with the bellows on the front and the fire pot on the rear. Here's a picture of it. :)
  20. WOW, Bruce. That is pretty cool. Thanks for posting. :)
  21. Gary, if it is a Hay-Budden, that serial number says it was made in 1919, according to Anvils in America. :)
  22. Dang, Aaron. You left down here with several thousand pounds of iron, last summer. You got an anvil fetish? :) Enjoy them, my friend.
  23. John Bennett, Stan(Trying-it) and myself all made a rose and I sent them over, last fall. They acknowledged receiving them. It's great that those folks are doing that. Thanks for posting, Rory. :)
  24. Very nice, Mitch. I really like the design. Thank you for posting the pics. :)
  25. Just plain ole Borax from the box. That's all that I normally use. I've tried adding metal shavings, or saw dust, that I collect in a container from under my metal cutting band saw. But I prefer just plain ole Borax. :)
