  2. Borax is mined not made. It is a natural occurring chemical. It is also very cheap. I use it as flux and also use it in my laundry. Here it is sold as 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry isles of groceries. You can also get it from about supplier of chemicals. Finnr

  7. For slathering on linseed oil I use paper towels and then chuck them in the forge. I've heard of too many wood shops that were not there the next morning due to spontaneous Combustion. Finnr

  12. New cast rivet forges came with "Clay before using" cast into the pan. A fairly thin layer is all you need. Fuel is going to make more difference than adding stuff to the forge lining. Finnr

  17. My forge is about the same height as my anvil. That way I am not lifting apiece up to start hitting it. Seems that many old forges were built about this high. Finnr

  20. I have used a ground forge in the past. Past is the operative word here. If I were to try now I would end up in ER because my back wouldn't let me stand back up. LOL!! All foolishness aside they work ! Finnr

  25. Looks like a fun project. I have done both Norse welded socket spears and Anglo Saxon split sockets. It isn't the easiest job. Looks like you are getting excellent results. Finnr
