  1. Not sure if it was an anvil in it's past life, but it certainly could be decent anvil now. Turn it on edge and make a nice stand underneath to help with the mass and I am sure you'd get years of use out of it. If ya know someone with a water-jet machine you might even be able to machine it into a swage block. Lot's of options there!
  2. Thanks for the updates. Hopefully I won't miss it when it airs!
  3. You might want to look in the solid fuel forge area then. There are plenty of good ideas and build ups listed there.
  4. Thanks for the info! Sounds like something I shouldn't miss.
  5. I've been trying to find out about this event in MI and only have a little infotmation via the MABA website and the local government of grayling it looks like it might be a decent evert for a beginner like myself to attend, but I was wondering if anyone on this site has been and what I should expect to see/gain from this event.... i.e Tailgates, demos or just blacksmiths selling wares.
  6. Looks like the OP had his images hosted on yaypancakes site and he found out about it and removed them.
  7. I am sure we'd all benefit from your demo. I know I would be interested as well.
  8. I did a search on brick forge and found this.
  9. Just an option, but I would save that saw blade for something else in the future and perhaps get a piece of 1/8" sheet steel for a table top. Randy McDaniel has a great blue print for a forge table and fire pot in the book a blacksmith primer. I just used some scrap parts I had laying around for my forge table and it's worked out well so far. I am using a brake disc from my truck's last brake job and a stainless steel cabinet door as the table which is supported by wood screwed to a stand. But if you have the ability to weld I would just get some 1/4 or 3/8 plate and weld up a fire pot and replace the brake drum. I hope to build a setup like Randy's blue print this winter once I get my shop in order to use a chimney.
  10. Got an old bike laying around? You can use the chain, sprockets, and pedals for the gearing, then build a box and fan out of wood and mount the drive sprocket to the fan and there ya have a hand crank blower.
  11. Great pictures as always! Thanks again for taking the time to post these. It looks like everyone involved in this trip enjoyed themselves and will have stories to tell for years to come.
  12. This is a picture from one of the canedy otto publications. They show a tapered handle.
  13. That thing will probably sell for over 600
  14. She must watch Matchless Antiques auctions on Ebay.
  15. I had one for a while, but it was in rough shape so I sold it off and picked up a nice Hay Budden. Here's a link to the tread I started a couple years back. http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/18336-wilkinson-anvils/
  16. I am looking forward for this challenge. Thanks for the time and effort you'll be putting into this and the willingness to share your knowledge
  17. Sounds like you got a great deal for a decent looking anvil
  18. The better question is... Did you go to the auction and if so what did it sell for? I would've guessed it was a typo and it was 150lbs.
  19. Finally got the time to complete the build with the blower stand and forge table for my drum forge setup. The base of the table is an old server rack that I attached some wood planks to and then I found an old stainless steel door at the scrap yard to hold the coal. I added the wheels from a donor lawn mower so I can move it around with ease. I am still able to use the adjustable height on the wheels so I can level the table out once it's in place. I took the tractor supply exhaust flap idea and used it on my ash dump as well. Now I just need to get some time to use it! I think all together I might have 20 to 30$ in on the table and 50$ for the blower.
  20. Do a search on Touchmarks. There are quite a few posts with some decent methods to make your own, or purchase one from a company.
  21. I believe the method is ask everyone and anyone if they have one for sale or know of one available.
  22. I believe he's referring to a tapered wheel spindle for a car.
