  2. my smithy is "Matto forge and metal works" an m in an o is one touch mark the other is block letter matto
  3. i will get a close up pick for you neophite. it is a piece of steel folded so it holds the lid shut. notownkid they will need more than a cherry bomb to take this box out.
  4. tolate, when you get back down here i will get you a bag of bituminus to mix with the bag of anthrosite. then i we can go over starting a forge. didn't even think about that because the forges where already going.
  5. thomas i would disagree with you that hardies are "only" cutting tools that go in the hardy hole of an anvil. All tooling that go in the hardy hole are hardies. We have just come custom to calling our hot or cold cut hardies "hardies. it is like calling all locking pliers "ViseGrips" or all ajustable end wrenches "Crestent wrenches" or calling a box end wrench a wrench, but you also have combination wrenches, open end wenches, flare nut wrenches, pipe wrenches ect... all can be called wrenches.
  6. Thing is it was very clean burning and we were getting 1/2" mild to welding heat. It crackles some as it heats and exspandes. We were using an old pump handle blower on a bottom blast brick forge. Some of the problem with it not coking into mass lumps of coke like you are use to is it has less impurities to burnout. Which is part of the bituminous stickiness. We stared our forges with coke and pine cones.
  7. We burned the nut coal at our open forge last night and it worked great!! I think if you make a mix between the nut and rice it would be great. It was a hot fire and keep going great. We only had a silver dollar size clinker left when we broke down the fire.
  8. What would it take for you to make another one, pm me, I cand get you badge numbers. That ax turned out awsome
  9. Don't know about the belch, but could be from stopping the blower or a gas pocket. I checked with the buyers at my TSC and she said that they will have in stock through out the burning season for pellet stoves. So for us that is though February or March then back again in the fall. She also said if I need a pallet or more she will work with the price some. That is $300 a pallet if she wants To work on the price, I won 't stop her but 300 bucks a pallet is a heck of a deal!!!! My last pallet cost me $1200. That's not including the 6 hours of driving
  10. tolate if you want bring a hammer. we will have open forge time.
  11. Pics are always wanted!!! Good to hear it worked. $6 beats $25 for 50lb bag of bitumanis " blacksmithing coal". How was ash and clinker, I take it coked up well if you were welding with it.
  12. Tolate yes an air mattress blower will work. You coming down tomorrow night?? I have an extra forge and blower. charles Chevy is better
  13. let us know, anthracite is supposes to e better than bitumanis less ash and moisture. just about pure coke.
  14. Do you have the ability to set the tank in some water? It has helped me if I am using a small tank at a demo. Stick it in my quinch tank.
  15. Try a bigger bottle. Do you get freeze up?? I get welding heat at about 7psi with my diamond back. Normal forging is at about 4-5psi. I run a hundred pound tank. Love the forge to
  16. Let us know what you think of the Emerson anvil. As far as the edges just put a quarter inch to nothing on the edge and that girl will serve you well.
  17. Ian it is not as short as it looks. It is setting on 13" by 13" tiles. I need a bigger grill!!!
  18. This Thursday at trails and rails museum 6:30 is the 1733 blacksmiths meeting an open forge. October 18,19,20and 21 in Omaha is the pba fall conference. Heather McLarty is the demonstrator.
  19. yes we don't eat bread but love pizza, so we take about 1and1/2 pounds of hamburger mix in an egg some spice and onion then press in to a patty. i grill that till firm then we bring it in and add all our toppings. then bake at 375 till cheese is golden brown.
  20. This will flip a 16" pizza easy. Our crust is a hambreger patty
