  1. Nice work Matt, I play and those look nice. X 2 on the website question, got one ?
  2. You want to "season" any food related items the same way you would a cast iron fry pan. Warm the item up in your kitchen oven and generously apply olive oil, canola oil etc to the item with paper towel or the like and bake it at 300 to 350 for an hour. Some folks use lard, ie:crisco etc. Just make sure the item is clean before seasoning takes place. Have fun.
  3. Wow Bob, that really makes a guy think, my hands/fore arms are doing the same stuff, thanks for the post.
  4. Happy Birthday Buddy.

  5. Here is a rough guide, but take heed that some stores, sellers etc have their own colour codes.
  6. Lot's of good info here, thanks guys. KBM, don't worry your not the only noob here. :D
  7. Great follow up Brian thanks. Keep the vids coming. And all forged at a black heat.. :P
  8. Most off the shelf motors have a rpm of 1725. As blksmth mentioned the Centaur Forge model could be looked at. Also they have the air gates you may be wanting. Also if you are burning coke you will require more air. Things to consider. Let us know how you make out.
  9. I am just happy it's not a one heat thong... :o
  10. Brian, love the video. Could you tell me the brand/weight of the hammer and the diameter of the stock. Thanks for posting it. I love the profile of the hammer peen. I wish I knew what happened with the multiple posts, sorry guys....
  11. Brian, love the video. Could you tell me the brand/weight of the hammer and the diameter of the stock. Thanks for posting it.
  12. Nice guillotine, an industrial version for sure. Maybe a set of butcher dies ? I believe the hammer is a farrier's hammer or a rounding hammer reefera4m.
  13. The following Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) Trace Elements have been reported in WV coal. * Arsenic (As) * Beryllium (Be) * Cadmium (Cd) * Cobalt (Co) * Chromium (Cr) * Mercury (Hg) * Manganese (Mn) * Nickel (Ni) * Lead (Pb) * Antimony (Sb) * Selenium (Se) * Chlorine (Cl) * Fluorine (F) * Uranium (U) * Thorium (Th) * Ash Distribution * Total Sulfur Distribution * Pyritic Sulfur Distribution Why it's the new blacksmith's multi-vitamin..... Ventilation is key when doing anything shop related.
  14. Thanks guys for the kind words, I am still learning. Thanks for the heads up Brian, I will pay more attention to diameters. Fe, it does sort of feel like a right of passage. I have been wanting to make a set but knew I just didn't have the skill set yet so I waited until now, at the same time though I am happy because I have only been at this for a little over 3 months.
  15. Here's my first set of tongs I made to hold flat bar.
  16. Looks good Fe, no fair you have a mill... Nice tool, sort of like that smithing magician.
  17. Are there any failures when spending time/teaching things to your children ?
  18. You could use a small plate between the handle and the broom and drill the plate and put a couple of small lag bolts into the broom and then heat the heads, shape to desired rivet like shape and cool. Nice screen by the way. Check blacksmith's depot, they sell the fireplace brush.
  19. I agree Ken, it's lapping compound, it's a file in paste form.
  20. You could water anneal the end of the drill bit. Bring the bit up to a dull red with a torch, air cool until the red is gone and cool with water right away. This should soften the broken bit enough to facilitate drilling it out.
