  1. Rich your work really is head and shoulders above so many others. Another well done piece. Almost looks like it has a light in it!
  2. I am a hobbyist/blacksmith and learning everyday. Been gathering supplies and stuff to make an anvil from ... forging my tools as time allows now.

  3. Here's a scrap yard find, "Little Bubba". 25# for $5 ... 5/8 plate. Some one did a quick weld up with some scrap plate looks like. That's a 2# pein laying next to it. The mushroom shaped object has letters spelling out "Wilson" cast into it ... found item that someone said is actually a plug for pipe ... ought to work welded onto a piece pipe with mushroomed part toward the hole and stem facing up ... it weighs 36# ... all kinda anvil thingy's out there if you looking hard enough
  4. Both bowls are great ... what's the going price?
  5. Good luck and God speed and remember, "A happy wife is a happy life!" :D
  6. Really clean and straightforward design ... like the added touch with the leaf. It's a 10!

I really like the effect you have created with the metal ... looks almost like bark on a tree ... well done!
  8. Fosterob Thanks - I want to make sure I understand correctly - this thing is not broken. I will reassemble it tomorrow and when I tighten it it will screw in and when I turn the handle the other way to loosen it it will just release and I can slide the jaws apart ... how cool is that :D
  9. I found a Wilton vise at yard sale for $5 ... it's an undercounter mount woodworkers vise I believe. All parts there and in very good shape ... but the vice will not screw open/shut. I can push/pull the vise open/closed. Took it apart and as you will see in the photos the acme type threaded rod goes into a large "nut" that is threaded on one side only internally ... there is a fat pin that is held in place with a spring clip - it does not move at this time ... I've soaked it in WD-40. I am guessing that the fat pin somehow holds the "nut" (is it really a follower or block?) to one side thus allowing the device to move open/closed. This "nut" remains within the bracket seen in second photo - it acts as a retaining device. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
  10. Yes ... what Biggunn says ... pm me and maybe the three of us can get together ... :D
  11. A happy 4th of July to you all and may we continue to enjoy all the benefits of being Americans ...
  12. Very classy move Dennis - congrats to both of you!
  13. Simple/elegant is hard to beat ... certainly makes a statement on the hardwood flooring.
  14. My wife has wrestled the diabetes beast for about 28 years now. The resulting heart attacks, loss of much of her vision, stroke, neuropathy and all that goes with it is manageable even though it seems so burdensome at times for her. Having a routine for your maintenance, exercise, eating a proper diet and keeping a steady outlook help. As you say, give thanks in all things ... every day for my wife above ground is a blessing ... like the man said,"if I had known I was going to last so long I'd have taken better care of myself!" Hang in there BentIron you can prevail!!
  15. Thanks Red Hot ... it's always the simple steps that seem to elude some of us ;)
  16. Nice, clean lines, like the "fat belly", good for a lot of field work - I like it!
  17. Regardless of whatever disappointment/learning you had to go thru this is one fine knife.
  18. Very nice snake! Howdja get the belly flat without flattening the other side of the file?
  19. Obviously it was well worth the wait ... congrats :)
  20. territorialmills - We used to use a vest like that when we rode the Harley here in Nev in the summer ... gotta go see if its still in the closet with the leathers!!
  21. Thanks to all of you for your input! I have learned to throw out the questions and wait for the answers. Alfonso: I have a model 110-081 Century stick welder220 volt 295 amp AC only unit. Found out mine was made prior to 1982. I appreciate your comments about this unit. Gotta buy some cable now and stinger and connectors ... located a wiring diagram and a parts list ... let me know if you would like copies. Got my infor from: http://www.Welder-Pros.com ... can hardly wait to get the 220 installed and get to welding Yippie! Tim
  22. I agree with DennisG ... make one. Why wait? Look in the "Show Me Your Anvil" string and you will see several ideas that have worked for a hard place to hit. I am making my third anvil thing while saving enought to buy a "real" anvil. Most blacksmiths will never have a real anvil ... they still make things every day. Most of what you need to build your own can be had for little or nothing. Tim ;)
  23. I have to add 220 outlet for my new welder ... have had a difficult time finding info about how it is done ... searching the net only. Came across a site the has a welding section http://www.TractorByNet.com Had really good info about welding problems and how to hook up 220 service ... that site had 363 members and 2582 visitors on it today ... gotta love the net!!
