My union hall has kept me busy for the past 2 years, and we had a wonderful Christmas, and I officially retire from day job with IBEW Feb 1, but its only 35 days to my last day at work Jan 30.  I am keeping the part time maintenance job i have at the local coliseum, and looking forward to spending more time in my shop.

I have a large bone spur growing through my Achilles tendon on my right heel, that surgery is scheduled for Feb 6.  We are not wasting any time for that,  They have to cut off my tendon to get at the spur then re attach it, so  i will be unable to walk for 1 month plus 2 months recovery time after that.

There is my update, now i will go back into the shadows

I lift my coffee mug to short time actually being reasonably routine!

Bone spurs OUCH! Deb had one on her shoulder and decided reverse shoulder replacement required less recovery and therapy than having the spurs ground off. We both got tired of her recovery time but it was really worth it for us all.

Be well Brother and maybe drop in and say hey once in a while eh?

Congrats on retiring. It has been 2 years for me and no regrets.

I still wish I could spend more time in the shop haha.

Well I'm retired, had the surgery, got the T shirt.   I am still not able to walk, but next week i start Physical Therapy and will be able to put 50% weight on the leg.

Wife took off 2 weeks to baby sit me, under US Family Medical leave act. Then after she went back to work this week, they gave her a write-up for her missing 2 weeks of work, said her time away was not approved, so after 33 years there she now has a major violation for missing work, and  if she gets another write up she will be fired.

lovely huh?   it's a good thing I'm crippled still or i would have gotten a felony after finding that out, i dont have lots of patience for stupidity

Congrats on retiring. Praying for your health and healing.

That's horrible about your wife getting written up especially when it's for family medical needs. Ive noticed a serious lack of empathy or understanding of people's needs in most businesses. Especially with long time employees. Its like they look for reasons to get rid of people who have been loyal for many years with them so they can get someone new in to pay less. I dont know if that might be the situation but I have heard that story over and over.

I'm lucky to have a decent boss and manager that are understanding of family and personal commitments.

Hope everything works out OK for you guys.

Heal up my friend.

I retired in 2013 after 29 years on the police department. My timing was perfect with all the de-fund  the police and just getting started. When I was planning my retirement, I had a bucket list of things and places my wife and I could go to and do. After being retired for a while, I changed the "B" to an "F".

I had one on My heel and one each on both elbows. One was as sharp as a sharpened pencil, the other was not as bad. My doctor at the time asked if I was taking a calcium pill. I was and I stopped it and they went away with no surgery. It was about 20 years ago. I have been taking them again on the advice of another Doctor now with no problems.

That's good or better news Steve. Keep on healing up. We all push it. Lol.

I got to put away the walker and i can walk for short distances before foot hurts, It is nice to not be crippled, no matter how short of a time it was.

Wife decided to walk away from her job and retire last Monday.   Wife then got called by her regional VP the day after she resigned, and he wanted to know why an office that was employee stable for almost 30 years, loses 3 people in a few months all blaming the new boss.  They talked for almost 45 minutes, then we hear he showed up for inspection and interviews of the remaining people before talking to the boss.  Also we decided to file a complaint with state dept of labor about the write up and her boss screaming at people about needing to fire other people., even tho her VP said it was wrong of them to write her up for taking medical leave, and he will talk to them about it

Steve, missed this topic complete. Good to hear you are feeling better.

What a s%&tshow at your wifes ex-job. Hope that what goes around, comes around for her ex-boss.

Enjoy the retired life both of you. That you may stay in good health so you can enjoy it.

Glad to hear you are healing up and not crippled Steve. Being immobilized is Not fun or good for ones sanity.

Good luck with the wife's case. I've seen how bad managers/bosses can ruin a place. Sometimes it only take one person leaving to start a domino affect.
