JK Scotland
Reader warning: uneven, not symmetrical, messy as something you've just stood in. So after 3 years of having an anvil, I finally built a forge last Sunday (along the lines of the Essential Craftsman youtube video). And I appear to have made a working pair of tongs! It certainly took some trial and error, and more error. Here are a couple of pics. The second one is before it was riveted. (I should maybe put 'riveted' in quotes, but it seems to be holding). I used an 8mm drill to make the hold - I don't have any punches yet. Though drilling does seem a bit more sensible anyway. My dad says they look like something made in the 1700s. I'm flipping that as a compliment.
Awrksmokey
Nice, they look ready for work. There is a 'tongs' section if you'd like to post this there too late now we moved this one , also reposting in multiple places is spamming

Frosty
Good job JK, they hold the work what else do you want? Have you taken a look at 17th cent. iron work? It most certainly is a compliment and exaggerated as only a Father can. My first couple weren't that good. Frosty The Lucky.

Donal Harris
You want to see some ugly tongs that don’t even do what is needed? If I can find them I will post a photo. Yours look like a pro made them compared to mine.
Dax Hewitt
You wouldn't believe the amount if aborted bits of tongs round my shop. I know how to make them and have made some on a course but it's very different when you don't have a real Smith to advise you.
Frosty
Uh HUH, that's how you get to be a "real" smith. Anybody can do this with an experienced smith guiding you. The real lessons start when you solo. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
I learned a heap of things doing my lug wrench tongs. I'll start on another pair before I can forget all of them and see if I can make a set I'm willing to pass around a meeting.
