MJ Hofbauer
Duck, something about that screams to me its for some sort of casting. Just out of curiousity, is there any holes on the inside opposite the center square channel? If so I think it's upside down, that would be a pouring ramp, the two holes on either side would be sprue holes for excess material pouring out. If so, I'd recommend trading/selling it off as apposed to using it for a forging shape. As it would probably be more appreciated in the hands of an amateur caster for the purpose it was intended for. -MJ
irnsrgn
compensator, adjuster container for a big platform scales they used to drive wagons on to weight them. Or a campfire oven for a ham in a blanket, wooden handles sticking out each end to hold it with. Edited June 23, 2008 by irnsrgn
Bentiron1946
Undoubtedly destined for the Smithsonian, a rare example of the iron casters art. Sure is a complex thingamajig for some use or another. I suggest just sitting it on a shelf and when you have idle time on your hands contemplating it's possible use.
nett
That thing is an early prototype Flowbee™ You are missing the internal parts. The early Flowbee™ was a simple a dynamo used for cutting hair. Yep, you are missing the crank, magnets, and copper wire. The Barber would turn the crank with the customers hand on the ball. The hair would stand on end and he's start cutting. I'm quite sure it's a valuable keepsake and does belong in some obscure museum. Edited June 24, 2008 by nett yes, I still have speilling issues
keykeeper
Definitely an early example of George Foreman type grill. The grills are missing. Both halves would be packed with hot coals, then closed upon the very large brontosaurus burger, for completely fat free, wholesome meals for the family. Or it could be a cannonball mold....or a canuter valve....or.............Hey look, over there....a squirrel..........(runs away from this post)............ MooseRidge
And this word from our sponsor.... Personally, looks like a globe form for blowing glass spheres.... Depending on the size, might have been for the glass floats they used to make.... And now, back to your regularly scheduled harrassment..... :D
Alan B
How about a seperating pot for an aluminum die cast machine. Are there any automotive factories or foundries in your area ?
Lefty
I'm new around here buy I'll tell ya what I think. It's a portable bar-b-que that attaches to the bumper of your truck. If you look at the second photo you can see the depressions in the side where the rotisserie skewer would be held. A scoop of coal in the bowl and your ready to go. IowaHarry
It looks like an early prototype for a lead balloon mold. I hear it didn't go over too well. (Rimshot please) Harry

ThomasPowers
We've had an inch in the last six months and 3 uncontrolled wild fires are active at this point and a bunch more have already been dealt with. I'm worried obout July 4th when the neighbors fire bottlerockets into the bone dry weeds around our place.
CurlyGeorge
Hey Duck. I got it!! You got some mighty deep lakes up there, with some mighty big Northern Pike. Use a cable leader,(let stick out the sprue area on each side), cast a lead sinker and go get 'em!!
