Nick
Has anyone ever made a super sucker hood without welding? I'll get a welder one of these days, but today isn't that day, and tomorrow isn't looking good either. It would be easy enough to put it together with screws, bolts, or rivets, but I'm wondering about air tightness.
BIGGUNDOCTOR
Use an overlock seam. ---^ the vee goes over the "L__" on the other piece
Daswulf
Or angles overlapping with self drilling sheetmetal screws and high temp caulk if needed.
Jim Coke
Greetings Nick. A few small leaks would not be a problem at all . The volume of hot gasses going up creates a vacuum that would suck air in rather than exhaust out.. Another seam for sheet metal is called a drive . Google it.. HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
Frosty
Not a problem Nick, any of the above methods work just fine. Heck, you can just run the stovepipe in on a horizontal run close to the fire and call it good. Screws, rivets, pop rivets, folded seams, solder, muffler tape, be creative it only has to direct smoke. Frosty The Lucky.
Glenn
It is under vacuum not pressure. Make it a close fit and then use a fastener of your choice to keep it together.
