Keep digging through the series Glenn, you'll eventually find the one where he makes a forge blower from mud and sticks....handy for those as wish they could afford a blower.

that's really a amazing video. All you need is some "mud", a bit of fibers for stabilizing the mud and wood. The videos shows that you definitely do not need much effort to make charcoal. I prefer a little bit more modern way with an old barrel using the TLUD process too.

It's a pity that a bellows would have been easier to make and more efficient...  He's very lucky to not be in a survival situation and can spend the time to do things that way. (about 15 years ago I learned that in a survival situation I would not survive as I'm now dependent on Insulin.)

and it has given me an idea for a hand crank made of metal with some bicycle parts maybe
