So a situation where taking it for granite would be a good thing!

A layered stone would be gneiss.    (the "cutter end"   works to split blocks along bedding planes.)

Seriously, though, I have a 16lb. stone maul that I just acquired back in June, and it works great for heavy drawing out. The striking face (not the chisel edge) is nicely rounded, so it's basically an oversized rounding hammer. My son had his most successful striking session yet* using it a couple of nights ago.

*Successful apart from destroying the portable hole, that is.

I'll just sit here and pick at my strata till he does.

Careful: it's not good for your health to be too sed(im)entary.

Just ran across a CL ad for "Antique blacksmith Anvil - $1000". The description is "Antique blacksmith anvil...24 inches long", and there's no photo.

Sounds too good to be true!

Frosty clearly hasn't seen this yet.  Maybe it's for the best. Against him in a pun battle I'd probably lose my chert. Metamorphically speaking.

I hope not to cobble up this thread.....but yer right. When it comes to puns.....Frosty, rocks!            ds
