DiggerDiggs
Found this anvil at a local flea market. Am new to blacksmithing and have read some trenton's were usa made and some were German made. Can anyone tell me the age and country of manufacture of this anvil. Sorry have no other pictures. Also a good starting point on value would be appreciated. Thanks to all. Fatfudd
Sorry but you need to provide a bit more info. What do the serial numbers look like on the front feet? Some pictures of the side with the logo will be helpful. What does the underside of the base look like- ie more pictures. I can show you a picture of my pick-up truck can you tell me where it was made and when?
DiggerDiggs
I beleive that is the logo side. If you zoom in it is faintly visible. I have no other photos and there are no other visible markings on the anvil. Just thought I would take a shot that it could be identified. ThomasPowers
A good starting point on value is to list it's location; shoot anvil prices can vary by 50% just within the USA not to mention the other 150+ countries that participate here. That's one reason we suggest folks put a general location in their profile. Turns out a LOT of blacksmithing questions have a location factor in them and putting a general location saves having to include it with every post you ask a question in. (For instance I work in Mexico and live in the USA; should I give you a price in pesos or US dollars?)
DiggerDiggs
Sorry, I am in SW missouri.
Tubalcain2
what is the weight? that is a big factor in pricing. for a 150lb trenton in fair shape like you have there, 400 usd would be fair.
Black Frog
This is not a German Trenton. Serial number on the front foot. Get a close-up pic of the side logo stamp.
C-1ToolSteel
Trentons are high quality anvils. In your area, $4.00-ish per lb.
DiggerDiggs
Sorry the weight is 230#.

Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I looked at one just like yours here in NW Arkansas about 2 years ago. The seller wanted $900 for it. Had to pass, way out of the budget.
DiggerDiggs
This may be the same anvil. I don't own it but it is for sale in nw ar but like you to rich for my blood.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Where is this located & how much are they asking? The one I looked at was half way between Eureka Springs and Rogers at a private residence. It could very well be the same one because it is no longer at that residence which has different owners now. DiggerDiggs
Really don't know where it's at exactly. Got the number for the guy that knows the guy from a guy at an auction. The owner sent the pic to him and he forwarded it to me. 900 was the price I got from him.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I'll wager that it is the same anvil, and still too high in price. I offered $600 for it back then, and the owner wouldn't budge.

I have only talked to the guy over text and phone. Also finally got the correct weight maybe. The guy at the auction said it was 225 then the owner said 230, now says it's 215lbs? Either way I'm still on the hunt.
