ausfire
The first try was a disaster but managed OK second time. This was a hard steel wheel stud from a Mack truck. I don't know what grade of steel it is but it was hard. My first try at making a bottle opener from one of these ... well, the picture tells all. I guess I was impatient and let it cool too much while drifting the hole. I made sure second time it was yellow heat and drifted the hole slowly. I have found that mechanics like bottle openers made out of stuff like this. (P.S. _ I tried to post this in the bottle opener thread but the program wouldn't allow it)
Daswulf
Nice Aus. I've broke em like that while drifting too. One I was just bound and determined to finish out so I tapered the broken ends out into a U and scrolled the ends up around then punched the tab and it works fine. swedefiddle
Good Morning, Aus Try using a slitting Chisel for making the hole. You will leave more material to make the Big Eye with just my $0.02 Neil
ThomasPowers
Clean the broken ends up and it will still work fine and be a "variation" on a theme...
Frosty
Work on the broken ends a little and draw them into a cocktail olive fork and a bottle opener. Multi taskers are popular with mechanics too you know. Cool opener you have there. I think truck lugs are in the grade 8 range I know you can snap them off surprisingly easily if you're not careful. ThomasPowers
Hmm I may have to try an "el toro" bottle opener...
