I Forge Iron

My neighbor is leaving his job of several years today, and opening his own office. I'd like to knock out a little "good luck" gift for him, but alas, I'm suffering from blacksmith's block.

So, what say ye? Any ideas for a small keepsake?

Thanks in advance. :D

what kind of office? Aside from the usual card holder, I'll have to think about it. You probably want to make something that will be used.

He's an attorney. Useful would be good, but decorative would suit as well.

A pitch fork?? a letter opener, but then again an agery client could use that. Something useful for an attorney. A forged check.

Anchor? Just kidding :D

I think a cool letter opener and if he is having clients at his office, something like a card holder. Could also make a desk organizer with built in card holder to hold pens and outgoing mail.

All good ideas. Thanks.

I was expecting a bunch of attorney jokes and y'all didn't disappoint. :D

He's a nice guy. Mostly just does family law and sits in on city council meetings. Rest assured, I still get a lot of digs in. Fortunately he's got a good sense of humor.

I can't really add much but I made a pen holder out of a couple of short 2x2 tubing cutoffs and a piece of 1/4 plate that I flap disced and welded up. Not really blacksmithing but it looks like industrial art and doubles as a paper weight too.

I don't remember where I read it but I seem to remember reading somewhere that horse shoes were only good luck if it was a 7 hole punched one that fell off of a horse at a crossroads. There also seems to be a disagreement over whether you should hang them up or down to either trap or pour luck out.
