Derek I have one of the $89 rollers and have made several rings from 1/4 x 2. Here is a pic of some chairs I make.

Could these be registered as a brand is that is used on animals? Possible through the same registry. Check with a local farm shop or feed store or equestrian group.

Could be air. Does the pump sound any different than before? Often with air the pump will cavitate and sound different. How much oil lost? Did he unscrew the vavle completely and possibly lose a spring or ball or needle?

What is the reason you can't leave the woods?

Larry the pics are good. Keep practicing the welding. Looked good. I have 4 receivers in the shop floor. I can switch out tools easily like an anvil harder hole.

I think I am leaning more towards a gas due to the quickness of heat and the lack of fleas and such and I think I could put a valve in that would allow to me to vary the heat as I see fit. Seems like it would be more efficient than coal and since eventually I plan on adding propane heat to the shop I would be able to pipe it to the forge and use the heat from it for the shop also. Yes it would be nice to practice with someone on occasion and as close as you are we should consider it. I could PM you or you me with a phone#. I am usually around as for now....... I am retired and trying to stay that way. My goal is to do metal work to take up some financial slack if needed. You can find a few examples of what I make in the gallery.

Larry for OA welding you will normally use a bare rod with no flux on it. Depending on what you are welding I have even used baling wire. Actually it is good cheap way to practice your technique. And by the way I also wanted to say HI to a neighbor..... I see you are from Tieton.... I live over in the Yakima river canyon. Maybe if you want to practice sometime we could get together. I have several welders, torch, plasma etc. Looking for a small forge.... anyway HI neighbor.

Thermite is some really cool stuff when used properly..... you could use a "shaped" dynamite or nitro or semtec too........ best advice...... quit screwing around with xxxx that's not meant for the job..... buy a torch or take it somewhere to get it cut safely. If you want to mess with things like Thermite please at least take a course in pyrotechnics or chemistry before you hurt yourself or someone else!

use mild steel plate and mig your design and use a resilient bottom die and press. you would need your force equalized acrross the die (large die).

This is made from a 3" long piece of 1/2" round. I split it 2" down and bend out for the horns and go from there. Took about an hour.

Thomas.... thank you for reminding me of the propane. I know it would be cheaper and I will get that going I think. I guess it has just been that I have so many tips and equip for acet. that I have just let that go. Things are so expensive. I will check on tip prices for propane. Gas saver? I must admit I did not know of that. Is it a quick valve or....? I will definately look at that. Thanks

Thanks Larry for the comment. I am going to be getting a forge soon. Not sure if I will build or buy yet. I have several overhead propane heaters that are 3 and 3 burners and I think they will do well. I really just need to brick up a box and install them. I do find that while the torch is some what slow it also is a convenience in that I can easily control my heat application to a very specific area. Much of the work I do is small and this allows me to keep heat off of finer points.

Thanks for the comments. About a forge, I am not sure what it would cost me to run considering the price of propane. Acetalene is costing me $23 for a 140 size tank. One benefit a forge would give me would be to heat the shop some while working.
