I Forge Iron

Tuyere

Bud in PA

Recommended Posts

I have a piece of 1/4" mild steel that I intend to use for my tuyere. I will drill a series of 1/4" hole in it. From what I gather from reading the forum it will not last long. Any suggestions on what material  I can use to give me some longevity. The only thing that I can think of would be a piece of cast iron.

It's nice as I shape it to the bowl of my firepot bottom and can take it out and hammer it to remove any scale or flux stalagtites that form on it and replace it.  I definitely get a lot more time on it than I do a tank of propane on my gasser, multiple times longer! So changing it out is less of an issue than changing tanks.

The one I use for charcoal is a used diamond cutting wheel off a 4 1/2 in angle grinder. Right now I just have a piece of 1x1/2x4 flat bar sitting across the air supply pipe. I have also used some stainless someone gave me that was full of 1/8 in holes. I have a habit of using whatever I have I can use that's handy.
