Charles R. Stevens
A buddy of mine invited me out for dinner and gave me this little charmer. Looks like she needs a bit of TLC, but the price was right.
ThomasPowers
Had to run out to the garage and make sure the vice I got at Quad-State was still there; looks like siblings down to the condition! I have re-drilled the pivot hole slightly larger as the original pegged bolt was broken at the peg hole and it was wallered a bit tooDoes your screwbox have a forge welded seam in the tube? Frosty
Goodness Charles I know you don't like to work harder than you have to but buying a basket case post vise? Is it really that much easier to load? Maybe fits in the trunk of the wife's car so she doesn't notice more rusty iron coming home? The screw looks pretty good from here, if the box thread is good too I'm thinking it's a home run.Frosty The Lucky. Charles R. Stevens
TP, I'll have to look, lol. SLS, 4 1/2" I'll weigh it when I reassemble her she is stoutly built. Frosry, the screw box is a bit roug but I think it has half its life left.

Frosty
So do I. I wonder how long it'll be before someone asks what kind of swage you need to make them and if it'll work in a guillotine tool. Not that it wasn't the very first smart Alec thing that came to my mind you understand.I still really like the idea, saves a bunch of upsetting. Nice job Charles.Frosty The Lucky. arkie
I had to replace a handle on my bench vice once. Used 3/4" round bar, welded a big nut on each end, ground smooth. Works great!
