stovestoker
I go to this website called shorpy.com. It's tag line is histroy in high definition. Basically it's a website with tons of old photos in hi res. I found these after doing a search for "blacksmith" My favorite is the school shop class. wish that had that as an option when I was in school. go here
ThomasPowers
Notice the helve hammer in the back of "the Blacksmiths 1904" picture (and a powerhammer in the back of the school shot too!)
doc
That's a Fairbanks hammer in the school photo.

stovestoker
In the school photo, has anyone seen buffalo forges like those? Wonder how they vented out of that big room?

ausfire
Great site. The search function leads to a wide range of subjects. I am interested in old tractors and some of those old photos are fantastic. Good resolution too.I worry about this digital photo age. Those old silver halide negatives were a permanent record of history. How long will CDs and USB sticks last??
VaughnT
Awesome website! I will probably spend hours there browsing through just about all of the pictures. I love the old times that are, sadly, gone. I love that bulldozer press in the left front. You just don't see manly iron machines like that any more. A work of art. http://www.shorpy.com/node/12320
stovestoker
Do you notice how everyone is perfectly frozen? I bet the photog was using a large format 8x10 camera. No flash so he had to have everyone freeze for the 4 or 5 seconds to get the exposure. That's a great pic with great tones.
Eddie Mullins
Thanks for the link! What about the huge tongs in the 1943 pic? Wow!
JimsShip
I'm an old time Shorpy fan! I love seeing history as it was- kids working jobs some adults wouldn't do today, people happy with what they have, enduring struggles and hardships with a do what it takes attitude that seems lost today.
