ThomasPowers
So what did it say when you looked up the patent?
TonyS
Good morning Thomas, I did try and search the patent and drew a blank. Not being an expert, what are the best ways to search for a patent. I was using dawn vice with the pat No.

John McPherson
yahoo2, thank you for posting your photo of 'the crack of dawn' down under, and still keeping a "G" rating. B)
arftist
Basic info: type of vise; machinsts Construction; grey cast iron. Use; good for holding parts for filing chipping twisting ect. Not good for hammering parts as illustrated by cracked version. For a machinists vise to withstand hammering it must be at least 100 lbs or cast steel (very seldom seen) or a Wilton ductile iron model. Remember though; a machinists vise resists twisting much better than a leg vise.
swedefiddle
Good Morning, That kind of vice has the jaw section angled to one side. They are good for holding things vertically, the part you don't need will hang down toward the floor. As has been said, they are not a candidate for heavy hammering. Just my Ad-vice :) :) Neil
