October 5, 201312 yr Here is a railing job I did that the client wanted the design to match the wall sconces, but not be to gaudy. So this is what I came up with - Scrolls on each end are made up of 10ft of 1" round bar. The client insisted I sign the railing somewhere so I stamped my name and date on it. The railing panel sits between 6" x 6" cedar posts that make up the top and bottom rail(The cedar was installed previously, I just designed and built the Panel). Railing panel was primed, painted flat black, antiqued with copper then clear coated.
October 5, 201312 yr Well you pretty well nailed the match the sconce part; but I feel you really fell down on the "not be gaudy" part. It's very nice indeed!
October 5, 201312 yr Greetings Jeremy, Super job on the iron... Not so sure on the cedar top and bottom rails... But I know the golden rule .. The customer is always right... Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
October 5, 201312 yr Well done! The cedar is the low point of the railing which is good when you're the iron guy. Frosty The Lucky.

It's very nice indeed!Thomas - Well I guess "Gaudy" wasn't the right word I should have used - I should have said "without being to busy looking". I wanted to hint a bit of the sconce design in the panel but not over power it.It's always tough to do a partially forged job and partially fabricated job, because as you work on it - you'd like to do it "ALL" forged/fastened like the Masters did years ago but the budget seems to restrict that on some jobs. I'm happy with it and the client is happier.
October 6, 201312 yr Love it JK!! Those are some pretty beefy bars and scrolls!!! Think it works well with the cedar beams!! Forged and Fabricated.. all good!! :)
October 8, 201312 yr Gorgeous scrolls, very exquisite. They look perfect and add elegance to the railing. I'm sure the client was satisfied. Excellent job!
September 25, 201411 yr I missed this when you first posted Jere. Really nice! Looks like a heavy duty rail! :) Got any recent pics? I wonder how it looks now that the wood has had a chance to age a little; assuming they are letting it weather naturally Scott
September 25, 201411 yr Author Thank You Everyone, Scott - I have not been there since the install - I'm assuming the wood looks pretty close to original, I believe they put a sealer on it.
