March 12, 201313 yr Author Thanks everyone. Its welded together using low hydrogen wire, The ring isn’t too bad tough i only have my Wilkinson to compare it to. That’s why the faces were machined before assembly to increase the contact area of pieces. As far as the rebound goes i tried it last night with a 1.5lb hammer from 200mm and it bounced back 80-100mm roughly. As i said though at 45rc its on the softer end of the scale for an anvil but i will see how it goes before i modify it.
March 12, 201313 yr Wow! the amazing part is how you ground down the horn into such a perfect shape. I'm inspired to make my own!
March 13, 201313 yr Author Thanks Mate There was a bit of work on the horn but I’m happy with the result. I marked the shape i wanted out in two dimensions at the start then the rest was mostly done by eye. I used a French curve now and them to check for uniformity of both sides. The 36 grit sanding disc in the 5" really finished it off nice and was easy to blend the shape, then i just polished it with a scotchbrite on my radius master when i was done. I would say if you have a good eye and a feel for this sort of thing definitely give it a go.
