February 26, 201313 yr This is the last one to get a handle. Now it's time to start on some new pieces. Thanks for looking. John
February 27, 201313 yr That blade looks fast.........LOL Beautiful work. The pattern commands attention till I look at the handle......then........... :)
February 27, 201313 yr Author That handle actually has a lot of color/movement that unfortunately does not show well in the photo. It's something I have to remember when making/photographing blades. I guess it's the 'bling' factor. I've always felt that a really nice handle can sell a blade, whether justified or not. Fortunately for me, that knife is sold/partial trade to a local artist woodworker for future wood for handles. His wife owns an art gallery and he gave it to her for a Valentines present. And...ain't nobody happy if momma ain't happy. Thanks for the feedback. Always appreciated. John
February 27, 201313 yr Very nice - Darren said it best, looks fast. Is the handle stabilized wood, or a man-made material?
February 27, 201313 yr John, now you are just bragging...............And justifiably so :D . That knife is just the dogs .... I love it!
February 27, 201313 yr Author Theo, The handle is dyed and stabilized maple burl. I'm finding stabilized maple to be soft, so will stop using it when I run out. My favorites are desert ironwood (thanks to Mike H.) and cocobolo. John
March 7, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the comments. They're much appreciated as it's how I learn. John
March 8, 201313 yr For a fellow who said, "I'm a blacksmith, I don't make knives", you sure have changed. That is the same way I got started making them.
March 10, 201313 yr Author This from the friend who asked Me to make him a grinder a while back. Now he makes and markets his own grinders and controllers. Hey, wait a minute, shouldn't I get some sort of royalty or something? :) How about a discount on my next controller? John
