Prokopto
http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/3268063563.html Would have been a good buy if I had the $600 to spare.
Black Frog
Wish it was closer, what a nice piece..... Interesting that it says the later 'England' stamp on it- yet it has no pritchel hole. Wish it had a better picture of the weight numbers- can't make out the first number, middle number looks like a 1 and the last number looks like a 9. Wonder what it was really weighed at, or is 300 the sellers guess? If the marking is 2-1-9 that would be 261#, still very nice, but not 300. Interesting that it says the later 'England' stamp on it- yet it has no pritchel hole. Yeah I noticed that. I wonder if the pritchel hole was filled in or if the anvil is a pre-1840 like most non-pritchel anvils. I have an I. Hill that has no pritchel but my Paragon does so it's not an issue. Black Frog
If the Peter Wright anvil has "England" stamped on it, it means it is after the 1910-1911 (or so) requirement to have the origin of manufacture stamp.

Interesting. That is helpful to know. My Uncle has a 100 pound PW I have been after for a few years.
VolcanoForge
I've never seen such a clean PW. They're usually thrashed. Heel seems extra thick. Hmm looking at it again the color of the heel seems a little off...
Black Frog
Heel seems extra thick. ...I thought the same.
Judson Yaggy
That heel has been broken off and a new piece welded back on.
Black Frog
looking again, I think you may be correct....
ThomasPowers
If it was done well it's still a great anvil. If it was done not so well it's way over priced.
VolcanoForge
It may have been done well but why couldn't they take 2 minutes and drill a pritchel hole?
VaughnT
I thought the heel was replaced. The transition from curve to flat on the underside just didn't sit well with me. Might me that the shop that was using the anvil didn't need the pritchel hole. I could see someone sledging away on a hardy and missing one too many times...... Prokopto
hmmmmmmmm.... I hope whoever goes after that anvil sees what you guys noticed.
Loneforge
I believe this has been refaced as well......Extra thick face....No pritchel...........and way too smooth for an anvil that has worked for a living??? Just my 2 pennies anyway......I stare at a Peter Wright anvil everyday.....Just saying!
Fatfudd
To me it looks like the heel with the pritchel hole was broken off and they ground it square. It just doesn't look balanced with the heel too stubby.
MOblacksmith0530
Yup I agree where's the rest of it?
r smith
It looks to me that the heel has been replaced with a 2" thick or so piece of plate with the hardy hole cut in it. It is hard to tell if a weld is visible on the side or not? some kind of discoloration is visible but could be the lighting etc.... Also the "new" heel has a different texture than the rest of the body that changes at the weld line. Weld looks to be about an inch or so thick. Maybe the thicker plate added the additional 10 lbs.
