Timothy Miller
I would still rather have a mint condition 6" leg vise.

beth
nice onsite vise - for the front of your lorry? :) sharpen your chainsaw chains in or something... there Will be a reason to justify having this . :)
bigfootnampa
I had one slightly smaller than that one... my 3" leg vise obsoleted it to the point that it fell into complete disuse. I have since auctioned it off and acquired a 6" leg vise as an even heavier duty option.
FieryFurnace
Definately would give you "biggest bench vise" bragging rights, but I'd also rather have a good 6-inch post vise. Thanks for sharing!
ThomasPowers
Ahhh an old chipping vise! Quite handy for some tasks. Funny thing; I have both a light 4" vise and a heavy 6" vise near my anvil and use either one depending on what I am doing. The light one is fast to use, I can close it with my knee and doesn't suck as much heat out of the piece being worked on. The heavy one takes a hand to swing the massive handle, absorbs a lot of heat and can take a real pounding. So I use the "appropriate" one. ThomasPowers
Back when a lot of stuff came in as rough castings and were actually chiseled into using shape large vises were made to stand up to the impact of someone using a chisel with a light sledge all day. Bentiron1946
Dang! I bet you could do fold forming on that thing with a jack hammer.
