August 24, 200916 yr Very nice work. Are you a member of any of the local guilds? Having lived in Baltimore for many years, I don't imagine that the picture of your Acorn table and shop, is a picture of the basement of a typical row house. :D
August 24, 200916 yr WHAT KIND OF SICK...TWISTED... oh wait, that's kinda cool!! send more pics when finished!
August 24, 200916 yr Love it! def would like to see finished shots - great to see this kind of thing! Also Lurve the table... who wouldnt?
August 24, 200916 yr Author Thanks! It's mostly 1/8" sheet, some 3/16", some forged 1-1/4 round etc. Brick layup forge and burners get reconfigured as needed. burners are installed on sliding rail, add as many as needed. It will actually be a light over a townhouse entry door- a floodlight will go inside the mouth, this being the reason for pitbull size head. It will sit on a sort of art nouveau looking forged pedestal. This is already mostly done, picture attached.
August 25, 200916 yr The Gargoyle looks pretty cool. I am intrigued by the pedestal too. How did you get the pattern on the long bars? I don't know how to describe it, but it reminds me of alligator scales. Did you make it octagonal or hexagonal in sections or what?
August 25, 200916 yr The pedestal is very attractive in a kind of creepy way. The closer I look the more disturbing the leaves (I HOPE they're leaves!) look. The textured elements look like some sort of living or maybe just not quite dead thing and the tight reverse scrolls look like coiled tentacles just waiting to grab someone. . . ME! You are going to fit right in around here. Looking forward to more pictures with great anticipation. Frosty
August 25, 200916 yr Author Pattern on the bars is just power hammer texturing- started as round, forged to square, then put facets on the edges. After going through that I think next time it should be more random and aggressive texture like natural vines.
August 26, 200916 yr That creature got some very nice features, like the mouth and teeth. PLease post it once finished. Nelson.
August 27, 200916 yr I like the pattern on the bars, bark texture is everywhere something bold and regular is a refreshing change. Frosty
August 28, 200916 yr Author Thanks Frosty, I really didn't start out with any clear plan- just made up as I went along. First time I've tried anything like this (the pedestal/ wall bracket part). Am learning a few things in the process that I hope I remember next time.
August 28, 200916 yr That is awesome!! Gives me some inspiration to pursue an idea I have had back in the cobwebs of my mind's file cabinet sort of a dino/dragon/gargoyle-ish beast LOL
August 28, 200916 yr A first go at something like this eh? Well, that's good testimony for learning how to blacksmith before taking on complicated projects. Your skill and mastery of the processes is evident in the quality of the product. Without the skills set it would take forever and not be so nearly balanced and attractive. Well done, thanks for sharing. Frosty
November 1, 200916 yr Author Here's a few more of recent progress, the other picture is part of a railing I've been doing for a friend's house.
