myloh67
Why is blacksmithing so addictive.. thats a good question and i will do my best to answer. For me its a gateway approach of expression. I enjoy technical challanges but mainly it enables me to decifer aesthectially between the things i like and dont like through the creative process. I love its plasticity and sense the infiniteness of whats available. A big and neverending learning curve. Long may we breathe..!
Frosty
WHOA Myloh! Can't you just say you like playing with fire and hitting things with hammers like the rest of us? Frosty
nelson
Good question, as good as asking why drugs are so for drug addicts. I think that for something to be addicting, first you got to like it. Second it got to fill a void within us. Third, it becomes as important as food for an empty belly, that got to be filled regularly. I`m myself a work addict, and what can be more fulfiling that shaping a piece of iron, wood, or any other media into whatever comes to mind regardless of shape, color, size or what have you. Don`t hurt the liver, or burn neurons, so to me is the best and most creative addiction, love it! nelson.
tantrum86
I must say i agree with CBrann i like my solitude and when im working on a project i tend to use the work as a type of meditation and focus. It is very fullfilling to work on a project and when im done and others see it and ask where did you get that and i tell em i made it with fire and hammer and they go wow i didnt think any blacksmiths were still around. The fact that i get to carry on such an old and reveared craft keeps me thoroughly addicted and no frosty i need no saving as of yet but if my addiction becomes overbearing i will surely contact you for your self sacrificing services. WillyP
Creativity. Man has a desire to be a creator, even though at best he can be a re-creator; just as Solomon said, "There is nothing new under the sun." As a kind of non-creative person - I have the desire to create, and recreate things in a more personal (and better) way. It energizes me, gives me strength to go beyond where I have gone before. Stimulates the mind. Teaches me to plan things out, to look ahead of myself so I don't end up at a dead end. And I find it very satisfying to spend a day working with my hands and the various ellements already mentioned, and then go to bed dead tired, just to be able to get up the next day and do it all over again. littlemus2000
Every comment and post helps to reinforce my thoughts and I have decided to be more like Frosty where I can store all the evil implements of the trade on the east coast. Thanks to all with the answers needed. It is good to hear them from others.
