  1. Every comment and post helps to reinforce my thoughts and I have decided to be more like Frosty where I can store all the evil implements of the trade on the east coast. Thanks to all with the answers needed. It is good to hear them from others.
  2. The question is Why is blacksmithing so addictive? I've been working at learning the art for 2 years and when I miss a day I feel like I haven't done a thing. Is there any cure?
  3. Sorry bout the question I ment comments and maybe I can get more than 1 pic this time.
  4. I was lucky to find an old fisher anvil, havent checked the weight yet but found what looks to be a date on the base. Any answers would be greatly helpful. Thanks.
  5. I hope to get more pics that are a little more clear. I have some great friends. I just bought a atlas 6" lathe with all the tool for my brother 2 day and got a copy of Audels Machinists and Tool Makers Handbook for free.

  8. Just found a lathe in an old barn and the lady wanted $200 for it so I jumped at the chance to learn a new tool. The lathe is a Star and the other info I can find is paten dates last of which is Apr.14, 1896 any ideas on where to find a manuel on said machine? thankes all.:D
  9. Hello howardz71, I haven't seen plans for a charcoal cooker like that but sounds like it really works. I use a 55 gal drum with a 4" x6" door cut close to the bottom and a lid that fits loosely. Then about 4 or 5" above that I drill and insert 2 1/2" rebar rods to hold an inner barrel ( an old transformer casing ). The inner barrel has a bolt down lid and 6 3/8" holes drilled in the bottom. I like this cause the fire is enclosed and the brush don't catch as quickly. I use the door on the bottom to stoke the fire and I can see when the flames die down coming out of the holes in the bottom of the inner barrel. When that happens I just pull the rebar out and drop in the ash of the outer barrel. Let cool down 5-6 hours and you have charcoal. I really would love to have heard it when the volitals started catching. People ask me why I make charcoal and I tell them cause I can. Good luck
  10. Hello all, got the pics posted in members gallery, but didn't get them posted here yet cause had to work trouble all weekend. Once again thanks to all.:)
  11. Thanks for all the help, but I checked and all my pics are to large. I'm thinking that the forge used a smaller blower but I can make this one work. Once again thanks for all the help.:)
  12. Well, I finally got to post these pics and I hope that they help. My Mudder and fadder always said that I was a little slow.:D
  13. Right now I'm working on a friends computer and I have to figure how to add pics but they will be added soon.
  14. I've been using a homemade forge made out of a disk blade and a hair dyer and now an old friend sent me a champion 400 blower and the only markings on the forge is 402. I don't know if all the parts are there or not. It seems that the blower fits on a bracket off of the forge but it don't fit well. Does it have a locking ring or what? Any help would be great. Thanks.
  15. Well Frosty, I once added 2 trees and a bush. :)
