the weird blacksmith
Joshua I've never been picked on for being a blacksmith. Most people around here in Mississippi find it interesting I do something their Grandfather did. Besides I'm a martial arts instructor too....I admire your anti bully techniques!!

rail track anvil
I've been thinking of doing the same thing except I'm considering upsetting it to have a slightly larger surface because I think my track may be smaller.

Not enough updraft on my chimney. Please help.
My forge stack is 21" dia. I have no smoke issues as long as the local wind stays below 20mph.

Portable forge project
I originally thought about building a forge trailer. I guess I'll return to that idea. I hope to do demos in the future so I completely understand all the view points and suggestions previously mentioned. Thanks guys!!

Portable forge project
Hey folks. I recently aquired a large 12V evaporator fan used in defroster and heater units. My idea is to build a portable forge table and pot that would mount in the tow receiver hitch on my truck and use the trailer plug as a 12V power source. What's do y'all think?

Forge air supply suggestions needed
I'm setting mine up with a blower and motor from a clothes dryer. I haven't plumbed to my satisfaction yet, so I'll post on it's performance soon.

Straightening a machete?
Very true and very possible. If I fail I'll just buy him another one. It's a friendly challenge, not a paying customer.

Straightening a machete?
This one I'm working on is a Trimontina. Heres what their website said. Blade Composition: SAE 1070 High-Carbon Steel. I'm gonna go with JPH's recommendations in "The Complete Bladesmith" and straighten, harden, and heat treat it again.

Question about charcoal
My smithy is indoor. It's sand floor now with the plan to pea gravel it soon. I played it safe checking the stack exhaust and embers from the firepot and having a bucket of water handy for a quick toss. Thanks for everyone's post.

Question about charcoal
Yes I forged last night until the fire was shallow. I scooped it all out and put it in a bucket full of water. I figure I'll do that after every firing until the bucket gets somewhat full. Then I can screen it and let it dry to use later. Does that sound like a good idea to y'all?

Question about charcoal
Since I'm running low on coal I decided to try charcoal. I purchase some Royal Oak. It starts easily and heats well in my opinion. My question is what is the most suggested way to shut down a charcoal fire with your done for the day?
