  1. What model is it? Does it come with anything, i.e. hose and guage, ceramic shelve? A few pictures would help determine the condition.
  2. I feel lucky to be able to learn a new skills at the age of 63 years. This country allows us to do this. We should be thankful we are here in the USA. Are we communicating right now with new technologies that allow us to share our knowledge and old skills with others? I'm on a computer that allowed me to find IForgeIron and anvilfire and search for answers and explore areas I didn't know about when I first started. It's a wonderful thing. I have troubles with computers, and don't understand the language, but I don't try to fight it. I use what I can and realize I am so far behind the curve, that I strike out when dealing with new devices. There is good and bad in everything, just enjoy and use the parts that help your life. Let the new kids help you with your devices that don't work and you can show them a thing or two.
  3. I use the hard ear muffs. They generally have some level of decibel protection. The main benefit to hard muffs is that you are not sticking something in your ear repeatedly, that might not be clean. Ear plug protection can vary depending on how well you've placed them in your ear and how they hold up to the compression while in your ears. When I have my hard muffs on, I can still hear the phone ring, and the wife calling me. So they're not perfect.
  4. I am so sorry to hear of your lose. It sounds like he was a terrific person.
  5. When your forging clothes get placed in their own separate pile away from everything else to be washed. And the wife wants them taken off before you even sit down on anything.
  6. I have some Bouton 5907 series safety glasses and one with a #2 filter for working on a forge. The one with a #2 filter changes the color of the metal as it heats up which takes some getting use to, but I'm sure it is protecting my eyes.
  7. Thanks Randy C. I gave my friend the information. I looked at the web site and the wire there should work fine.
  8. A young friend of mine wants to tie some things together that go into a kiln. He wasn't sure what to use that won't burn up or melt. He was thinking there might be tungsten wire, but I 've never heard of tungsten wire that might be 5 feet in length. Any suggestions on what material he may use. That's all I know about his dilemma.
  9. 3 phase or single? Pictures would be great. It's worth a thousand words.
  10. Great shop. Nice size with room to grow. How much for the Little Giant and is it 3 phase or single?
  11. Nazelhammers: You kind of had me on your side until the last comment by you about puking. Give it up, let it go, get over it, move on. But, I see you can't do that by your long dissertation of your side of the story. There's a time to not say anything more.
  12. There is a little giant 50# trip hammer on Craig's List, Ventura County, California. It looks to be taken apart but comes with a motor. $800.00 or OBO
  13. Greetings Matt. I live in Simi Valley also and part of a group of people trying to establish a home for Adams Forge. It was a blacksmith school in Pasadena and now located at Heritage Square in East L.A. Look up Adams Forge website on the internet and people there may be able to help you. David
  14. There is a new listing for a 100 lb Little Giant Hammer on E-bay.
  15. The general plan is to visit only these cities. I want to make side trips to blacksmith shops depending on their distance from the city we are in. We will probably rent a car in each Country, but I want to take the train from Italy to Munich.
  16. My wife and I are going to Italy, (Venice, Rome, and Tuscany), Munich, Germany and Paris, France in September. Does anyone know of blacksmith shops I might visit when I'm at these cities? I would love to visit some shop while I'm there along with seeing some of the blacksmith history of Europe. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this subject, but any help would be appreciated. Dave
  17. They make for a nice horseshoeing stand. Weld a pipe in the middle and cap the top. It's a lot better than you holding their feet up.
  18. Very nice job. I hope you have strong back. You will need it for the horses. Good luck with your endeavor, you will learn a lot.
  19. Thanks for the series of pictures. It sure helps us newbies. Keep doing this type of stuff!!!
  20. What a gift you gave that old man. He will probably live longer because of the joy he will have with that forge. And you will have credits added to your name in the great book
  21. How did you finish the entire railing? Any protective coating?
  22. For metal patinas see Ron Young's "Sculpt Nouveau". They have many patinas for all types of metals. There are others out there, but don't come to mind right now. Good luck
  23. If you clear coat, use Glisten PC or a good automotive clear coat. You can use a wax on top of the clear coat. Good luck.
  24. Anyone with experience using a Mankel Forge with blower? I was wondering if there was any problems having three sides open. I know you can block of the two ends with bricks, but I was wonder if the forge will get hot enough to forge weld? The open aspect adds versatility to the forge, but without doors I imagine it would take some time to get up to welding temps and use a lot of gas in the process.
  25. What type of burner is used on the diamondback forges? Does he make his own and if so, is it modeled after any type of burner?
