  1. The pic is gone but if anyone remebers this, it is a can opener.
  2. If the reigns are to short just forge out the bits and boss and weld on some reigns. That is how i usually make tongs, much easier than drawing them out.
  3. How do you know when deadheads have been at your house? They are still there. How do you stop a hundred deadheads from charging on horseback? Turn off the merry go round. and lastly What is a deadheads favorite car? A blazer.
  4. Frazer, funny you mention people saying iron. Back when i joined i was hesitant becuase it was "iforgeiron" and not "iforgesteel", i thought it was for people working iron and not steel.
  5. Remember something from a Dead show? Surely you jest. Really though the congas strike a cord, wasnt the only show you played them at was it? I just had a Djembe with a macramé strap i played sitting on. I still have my ticket to the 2nd night at Deer Creek '95, the only show the Dead ever cancelled. I used to tell people to look for the guy with long hair and tie dye. I could never grow dreads i would just end up with dread, 1 big wad of dread. My daughter has had them for a few years on and off. She went to some beauticians school a few years back and learned how to put them in but more importantly how to take care of them and take them out. My hard core touring days ended Aug 11, 2008. I do not know if i have shared this here or not, it is actually an achievment that i am very proud of and have spoken about to many and even changed a few lives and turned some around, but i was a heroin addict for a few years and when i decided to get clean i more or less quit touring. That is one of the biggest failure of people who want to be clean is they are not willing to give up their so called friends. Anyway i do not mind sharing that becuase if my story can help someone or someone's family that makes it all worth it. I wont go into details here but let me say that if anyone here is struggling with addiction, or your child or sibling, parent, uncle, whoever and you would like an insiders perspective please do not hesitate to hit me up. Anyway now ya'll know why i seem discombobulated and rambly sometimes.
  6. My daughter has tickets for hookahville coming up, wasnt sure where it was at. Pnut, if you have been into jams bands for a while i would bet we have already crossed paths. Also i forgot about poly ethnic cajun slam grass, aint listened to that in a minute.
  7. Watched video of a power hammer, a huge, huge power hammer. The piece being worked was almost 6' wide, almost as big as the guy standing next to it, the hammer looked the size of a pile driver. Which i guess would be a sort of power hammer.
  8. Oh yes indeed, just not as much as i used to be. With the exception of last year i always make it a point to go see Gov't Mule at least once a year along with WSP and more recently Blackberry Smoke. My favorite band local was Ekoostik Hookah. They used to do a 3 day festival in Columbus, since moved to Nelson's Ledges i think, i'd have to ask my daughter, called Hookahville. Memorial and Labor day weekends. I think i used to have a good time those days are kind of foggy.
  9. The small ones. Came in 8 packs. 8 will make you great! I got the Hudepohl commemorative cans from the '75 and '76 world series.
  10. We used Little Kings beer bottles to build a club house when i was a teenager.
  11. Dont know them. Brian Setzer Orchestra is one of my favorites, and of course his band from the 80's The Stray Cats. Carl Perkins, Bill Haley, some of Elvis's stuff. Early 50's kind of sound. I am also been really digging this band called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, they are big band but with a more modern sound, really good. My grandmother on my mom's side was a piano teacher. She was really into jazz, Stan Kenton and his orchestra was her favorite. My dad's side we are from Kentucky down where Lorretta Lynn and Crystal Gale lived, all into bluegrass. My teenage years were spent with 90's heavy metal then i discovered the Grateful Dead. I really have some, lets say, eclectic tastes in music. If you ever get to the Dayton area around end of July, we have a Celtic festival every year. Gaelic Storm plays 3 shows for free that weekend. Along with Scythian and others. Sunday morning is a Mass in Gaelic. Good times, you would never believe the amount of people who actually own a kilt. Oh, i do like Celtic music also and am one of those weird people who actually like bag pipes.
  12. I like both kinds of music, country and western. Depends on my mood for the day. But mostly jam bands like Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule, etc. with a healthy dose of country, blue grass, and Irish punk thrown in. Maybe some rockabilly or big band at times also.
  13. I just happened to glance down and see it. My impression so far is this is not a beginners book. There is some info that is lacking that the author, in my opinion, was thinking as common knowledge. For most of us here yes it is common knowledge but for someone who is just starting a little more in depth descriptions and photos would be nice. But he does keep things simple and does not go into things like heat treating and stuff. Just simple mild steel projects that an intermedaite skilled smith could accomplish in at most a day, many in just a couple hours. One thing i did like the author pointed out "Blacksmith = tool hoarder"
  14. Had to go to the menards store for some stain and deck tensioners. Ran across this on my way out. First book for the library. I also got one of those flyers in the mail the other day.
  15. Thought it may be time to change the blade in my hacksaw. This one is getting just a bit dull.
  16. When i was a kid i used to heat needles to red hot in a candle flame. Then when i got a bit older, 8 or 10, i would go out to my grandpa's shop and heat nails with a propane torch and make little knives hammering them on the same post vice i use today.
  17. registration is now open. And every thing will be as normal. I could not find the schedule of events on the SOFA site, but if you go to the "buy tickets", on the Quad-state banner, it will take you to where you buy tickets and has a list of events and times. Should have the news letter out shortly.
  18. Welcome aboard. 11xray. Mortar? if i recall correctly? I was a 19 kilo. Thanks my brother. Like Frazer said, the mods frown on the bad language. May want to edit while you still can. I think you only have 1/2 edit window.
  19. Funny you say that. My neighbor was on vacation when all of it was delivered. When her and her son got back he said "Look mom, our neighbor is a millionaire." I said later on if he thinks i am rich, the guy across the street just bought a new truck! That guy is a billionaire! All together it is just over $4K... so far. That includes tool rentals, buying some tools (twice in one case), extras supplies, and copious amounts of adult beverages and pizzas for the end of the day.
  20. I am most definitely glad i did go that route with my deck. Just putting it together has been a back breaking chore.
  21. I have to leave 18" around the condenser for air flow. It will be tight but not impossible. Set the rest of the joists today and got them all nice and secure. Was out there working on the stairs and came in for a break. 90*+ with around 90% humidity. I am so dehydrated and cant wait to get in the shower. The worst part though is the stray cats that have decided to use the area i cleared and leveled as a litter box, so first half hour of my day is removing obstacles.
  22. A cup of bleach works to get rid of larvae in the old slack tub also, if you dont mind the smell of bleach that is.
  23. No forging today, i finally got the go ahead from the building inspector so i can start my framing, finally something resembling a deck.
  24. We are on the northern border of their habitat area. They do not get very big, about the size of a dime. Little brown kind of translucent guys with fiddle shaped markings. We have funnel web spiders coming out our ears here. They also have a fiddle shape on their backs which means that is not a way to identify a brown recluse on its own. Seems a lot of hornets, yellow jackets and carpenter bees this year. Thomas, did you mean Arachnid? Insects and Arachnids are both Arthropods. But of course Arachnids are not Insects. I am not saying you are wrong just wondering if you meant Arachnid. I should have just said bugs...now my head hurts from trying to remember high school science.
  25. We got the brown recluse here also. Fortunately never been bit. They like to hang out in dresser drawers. Generally though i leave spiders alone. Had this big gigantic black one that lived behind the kitchen sink that would come out and watch when some was doing dishes. The only insects i absolutely can not stand are roaches, earwigs, and ticks. We got a few timber rattlers here but you are more likely to run into some sort of moccasin or copperhead. The only critter to back me out of the barn was a skunk.
