  1. I am curious on everyone’s thoughts I have a nice old coal forge it’s in great shape. I was advised by someone more experienced then me that I should layer the bottom with a screen coated with refractory cement. I would prefer not to do it unless without it the cast iron might crack thoughts?
  2. Thanks I wasn’t sure I thought fisher was the only one who did bolt holes but never seen stamps like that on one
  3. I am making a digital database for what it’s worth of all the anvils I buy and sell. it’s not a fisher but that’s the only one I know that did bolt holes atleast as far as I know.
  4. The lead hammers are cool. I buy and sell blacksmith equipment all the time. I don’t know everything that’s for sure. I know that the anvils I have seen in that style have all come out of China so I figured I would check here first assuming that beam is 6x6 I would guess that anvil is 50-70lbs max.
  5. Not mine someone offered it to me for 600obo I really don’t know I think it’s china cast but I am not sure.
  6. I am actually really happy with this I have wanted this size hay budden for a number of years but could never get one either because of price or bad timing but this is perfect it’s not worth the 2500 Price or more the collectors pay even if repaired so I can justify keeping it I don’t need anything bigger “for now”. I will do a proper repair just need a more powerful welder to use the bigger Harding rods 90amp welder just can’t do it.
  7. 35” length 5.75 face w 21” length 13” height 12” base 1.5” hardy Sn 18349 weight 345lbs So after a clean up I was able to obtain enough information to figure out it’s an early Hay Budden. I will be doing a proper repair on it once I get a powerful enough welder. I do a lot of long stuff for custom orders so it doesn’t have to be wide but long helps a lot.
  8. Well I picked it up today. Unfortunately I didn’t get home till late. I did get it on a hanging scale it was 380lbs but the chains weighed around 20lbs is my guess. The guy was fair on the price taking that into consideration originally said it was 400-500lbs. I could make out warranty and wrought used some Caulk to help I will get it off the truck tomorrow and get it cleaned up but my guess right now is arm & hammer and around 350+. I will fix it and keep(not sure it’s worth much more then I spent on it even repaired I have been dreaming of the perfect 400+ Hay Budden as my main anvil but this should work till she comes along.
  9. I will be bringing a hanging scale so I will find out the real weight
  10. No mine but it’s sad. The guy said it’s between 4-500lbs
  11. Oh he is comfortable I have him on a expensive regiment of medication. He had been diagnosed 6 months ago with a life expectancy of two months he was coughing and lethargic I came up with cocktails of about 13 pills a day that help to 1. Improve blood flow 2. Remove fluid around his heart 3. Increase stamina. The end result it has made him comfortable and active. I actually have gotten into the business of buying and selling blacksmith equipment specifically to pay his meds. I have no kids or wife so I can justify it as long as it’s quality of life for him not just quantity.
  12. This is my 12 year old Weimaraner. He has been with me since I started blacksmithing unfortunately he doesn’t have long for this world(heart failure) but he has been a great shop mascot.
  13. A&H are uncommon but not rare from what I Have seen over the past few years they tend to be in the same price ranges as Trenton’s for the most part a 144lbs in today’s market will likely be valued at 3.75-5.00 depending on location and condition.
  14. Well I got an A&H and a peter but the feet seemed a little off from both of them but this guy claimed it was 400+ which is why I wanted to check it out
  15. Not the greatest photos but I might go check it out could use a maker
  16. Thanks. Yeah she is nice I think I will keep it as a demonstration anvil it will be used a couple events I have planned this year.
  17. Yeah I was thinking shoemaker also just not sure, second nails your guess would be better then mine on that
  18. It was made for Bullock out of Chicago. Got this part of a collection doesn’t look like it had Been used and abused on it minus the 1 chip on the heel it’s pretty much perfect.
  19. Started the restoration process still need to finish the brass plate, make the drill faceplate and figure out the pipe vise and grinding wheel
  20. Yeah, that was my thought. I wanted to give him good news but when I saw a few more photos had to tell him it's not worth much
  21. Never mind guy sent me a couple more photos pretty sure it’s cast at this point
