  1. My first basket twist. I split it with a chisel that I made so it was extra fun! Also made a snake that got his head run over out of an old file
  2. $1 swap meet wrench and version 2.0 pendant opener. Both as forged and need cleaned up
  3. Sorry to hear Barry. I was really hoping that Ridgid would make this right. I have now reconsidered my future anvil purchase and definately will not buy an anvil that I cannot test first. Diaspointing for sure and I hope the return shipping is reasonable. Thanks for sharing your tale of woe.
  4. Good luck Barry. I will wait to see how they treat you before i order mine. Thanks for sharing this important info
  5. Thanks Thomas. I ran it for about 1.5 hours at a mellow forging speed but didnt think to check the temp. Will do so next time
  6. I too find it disturbing. Are you sure they are dings and not just some marks in the finish? Any way to post a picture? I think I know the tool company of which you speak and find it amazing that they can deliver those reputed great anvils at such low prices. On that same Friday I saw the 275 lbs model for $1480 delivered !!!! It took all my will power not to click. I still want one I will be following this one and good luck
  7. Thanks SteveO. I wont let it run too awful slow untill i get some more info.
  8. So I bought a Centaur Forge coal forge with an electric blower and propmtly broke the variable speed switch (rheostat). Without thinking I replaced it with the same one. It is obviously not the original switch The first thing i noticed in my one short session before I broke the switch was that it produces a xxxx ton of air! Even at the lowest setting and the air gate mostly closed, it seemed way too much. When I got the new switch I noticed the “minimum slow speed adjust” screw and turned it down to the minimumest it would go and now it works a treat. My question is thus: how slow can she go? When turned to the lowest speed the motor barely turns (about a quater turn up is about perfect). Will going too slow hurt my motor? It is a Baldor motor that I assume is ok for variable speed Applications. I dont want to be paranoid but I dont want to damage my baldor either. Thanks in advance for any advice you can spare :-)
  9. Not today but last weekend. I did a bunch of other stuff in a 2 hour and a 4 hour seedion at my gasser including heat treating a coil spring knife and finishing one of Kens quick tongs. Lots of fun with the RR spike :-)
  10. Yeah. What is that stand? Anvil looks nice too
  11. Thanks Mr. Powers I like the foot switch idea. I watched a couple vids this morning re fire management and I am anxious to replace the switch and try again i will try water to control. I wss being cautious due to fear of cracking the pot
  12. I lit my first fire in my new to me coal forge and found 2 main things: 1. This thing is a beast! Even at the slowest speed and the air gate mostly closed my fire seemed huge. I had choked down the fire pan in my rivet forge with fire bricks and was used to a small fire. Turn it up a bit and and its out of control. 2. I have no idea what im doing. I think I had a huge hollow in the middle after ahile and I then I broke the knob off the the reostat switch and the plastic shaft. We did have some fun and I found that it indeed made a nice table for the propane forge. I will have to study a bit and try again after I replace the switch. It fits nice in the forge and im going to get some vent pipe and elbows and exhaust out the back My 11 year old, half hearted striker :-)
  13. Total impulse buy. Told the Mrs. I needed a new table for my propane forge. :-) $600 followed home a new friend
  14. “Property corner”. Haha. I love it because I am a land surveyor! gate post...hmmmm
  15. 3.5’+, 80+ lbs, supposedly Studebaker. I was thinking vise or grinder stand maybe mail box post or???
  16. Heres mine. Mostly practicing posting eith my phone. Salude!
  17. Came home early and bent a couple hooks. First attempt at a ball end. Need practice but I like it. Lots of fun to try
  18. Sweet anvil. Love the horn. is the hardy hole curved and will you need new tooling?
  19. Looks good. I will build a ribbon burner for my next one.. I havent burned any coal for 6 month after building the propane forge . The gasser is just quicker and easier to fire up Have a nice vaycay - 6 months off? You must really bust your back fot the 6 youre on!
  20. I have a mathewson burner in my air tank forge and it works well. However the volume is small at about 225 ci. It has 2" wool and at least 1/2" of cast o lite, I use soft fire brick for a back door and I made a front door out of left over cast o lite. I have only tried to forge weld once and I couldnt get it up to temp but I was running out of fuel and didnt try very hard. My forge works very good for what I do and I get about 10 hours on a 5gal tank I think a propane tank may be too big for just one of those burners. I could be very wrong tho as im a noob :-)
  21. Looks to be in great shape. $3 a pound would be a good price around here. Have fun!
