  1. Thank you I thought it would add mass behind the face, so I lined it up so the rail sat right on the cross section. I have got some plans based on threads I have read to make it into more off a swiss army anvil. I thought of putting a fuller on the webbing, a bick and then on the other side make a small turning fork. Then because of the light weight use it as my demo anvil to show people you don't always need a London pattern anvil to get started
  2. LBS that work looks brilliant. Wish I had half your skill.
  3. This was my first anvil it worked really well to get me started. I still have it and use it sometimes.
  4. So did some actual forging today, I am still trying to get the shape of the horseshoe hearts right. I also made a double hook for all the riding tack just to see. (It is even just thr pic makes it look lopsided)
  5. I do have a few on the heel but i think I need to increase the number and then i should be sorted.
  6. So i have put a silicone caulk bed under the feet and i can't believe what a difference it has made it really has quietened the anvil down to a dull thud. The only ring i get is if i work on the horn or the heel.
  7. I built a little side table for tool storage. Also i have put a silicone caulk layer under the foot of my anvil to see what effect it has on the noise.
  8. Welcome to the forum. It really does have so much information could stay on here for days and not see it all.
  9. Really cool with the bus, ope it helps get more visitors.
  10. Well for a special occasion you should definitely make some custom tongs. You could call them baby jaw tongs.
  11. Yeh it is really nice, it is about another 30 Kg which helps getting mass behind the anvil. I am willing to try everything to get it as quite as possible but don't really want to stop using the stand. So I will try with all the mods.
  12. Ok I will give this ago as I do have a tube of silicone that should work well. And I suppose if required I could put some matting under the feet of the stand where they sit on the Wood might help even further.
  13. Oh ok that makes sense I thought the silcone had to be a complete bed to be the most effective. I might stick with the steel stand for now as it double the weight of my anvil, was coming up with two methods of fastening it down. I was either going to make a bracket and bolt it to the frame but am unsure of drilling threw cast steel. The other idea was to use two chains fastened around the waist and then looped under the arches of the stand.
  14. I did see a few posts about that but my stand has a big hole in the middle as it is a traditional stand. I haven't got a picture of the hole but I think you can just see it in this picture. I was unsure about this as it seemed to be right under the sweet spot. But then I realised my anvil seems to have a slight bow between the feet, which I believe is normal with Brooks Anvils.
  15. That sounds good cheaper is better. I was consdering maybe turning changing my stand and removing the metal stand and turning the maple on end. As I'm pretty sure the metal stand was made for a bigger anvil, so might save it for if I ever get a bigger one that fits. Should mean I can get closer to the anvil, but would still put a layer of rubber matt on the top.
  16. Hi All, So my wife has told me that my anvil ring is still abit to loud as she can hear it on the far side of the house. I just wanted to get some advice on the below item and people opinion if this would make a significant effect on my anvil ring. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-30743-300mm-Vibration-Absorber/dp/B000UQ7CZK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1507107783&sr=8-3&keywords=rubber+matt I have read a lot of the forums and I have added magnets to the heel which I am going to increase as I gather some more. Also I am going to add some chain but thought this might be an additional help. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Luke
  17. Oh that is good to know i will keep an eye out Thank you. I don't think this one is too old it is off a new truck, the bit that has fallen off to the right was thr one that snapped but the rest are still solid.
  18. I got given this leaf spring by a friend who has a garage and he has said i can go back for as many as i like.
  19. Cool I will give it a go. Looks like a really useful tool.
  20. That is brilliant. May I ask what the starting stock and dimensions of the tools are. Many Thanks, Luke
