  1. Sounds good buddy please do send pics when ya got her all dolled up
  2. You can see the set screw in the second pic . And you can tell what is the fan and what is the shaft hopefully The more I lookat it your blower is slightly different but that fan shouldn't need to be ground at all. It just needs lots of wd40 Again don't grind it at all Another correction lol I thought you meant the nuts holding the blower guard on when I said to heat them cherry red. (Been dealing with flooding all daysoy brain is a wee bit tired) So bottom line is you just need lots of wd40 for all your current issues.
  3. I'd need to hear it to be sure about the bearings but yes I'd use an angle grinder with a flap disk to get the peened edges down. Hold up on removing metal yet that might be part of the fan.. let me check
  4. I just finished one of these lil guys, if you hit the nuts with a torch till just the nut is cherry red then quickly unscrew them they come off pretty easy. Also there should be a square set screw holding the fan to the shaft. I also don't recommend taking the gears out but you can take the two screws out of the "lid" and just keep hitting it with WD40 and turning the fan back and forth VID_20170111_095148.mp4
  5. I might try that two Rs and a lazy S... And we don't run cattle anymore but my great grandfather's and grandfather's brand is for a different names. But my great grandfather was the main blacksmith in my family so maybe I'll go with his brand to respect him. I'll send some pics in the morning thanks for all the replies. ~Rusty aka Mars
  6. Hey this is asking a lot but does anyone here have ideas for a maker's mark? My initials are R.R.S and I live on a ranch called the banner Queen... Iv been thinking about one for months and I can't come up with anything. This is probably one of those things where I should come up with it myself but maybe someone here will have a great idea. ~Mars
  7. On my ranch we have a few small crushers for crushing rock into powder. I wonder if they can be adjusted? I'm currently 2400 miles away from my ranch but I'll be home in a week and try to post a pic.
  8. You cannot weld cast iron but it can be brazed which is what I did recently on an old rivet forge that was broke almost in half.
  9. Thank you man I think I'll paint one black and one red the other one idk yet
  10. I have been getting a few old blowers freed up and working and am going to paint them . Does anyone know what colors those things originally were? Or have any recommendations? Thanks. Mars
  11. There is no stack and mostly I'm worried about the composite roof and wall. Here are some pics. Thanks for the help
  12. Hey I live in southern California and it's like a tinder box here and I was wondering what knowledge y'all have about coke sparks in particular as in safe distances from grass , trees , brush ect.. I'm getting set up in between two shipping containers there is a composite roof about 5 feet above my forge. First pic I have a piece of steel between the forge and the wall.w where the black barrel is in the second pic is where my forge is set up at. Any knowledge would be awesome . As allways thanks for the help. Mars
  13. I'd like to make some stuff from railroad spikes and horseshoes and a few tongs... For starters anyway currently waiting to go pick up some coke . Also I set my forge up in a different spot and am waiting also to pick up a larger anvil and get a log to go under it. Here's a pic of how it's setup now (upside down brake drum is just a cover) I'm sorry in my brain I call a mix of stuff "cement" hahahaa it is just sand and plaster of Paris. Also I mostly put it there to make my forge a little shallower.
  14. Thank you I probably should of mentioned that what was in the forge was just testing the blower and hardening the cement a bit. Such an amazing forum I'm glad I found it
  15. Hey guys I'm new to this forum (like 3 hours ago new) and I'm just starting to set up a place to do some blacksmithing and would like comments , ideas, warnings, ect
