  1. Thak the Blacksmith &Armourer- Ontario, Canada Im getting 5- 70 pound bags order and they are 60 buck a bag, I find that expensive, what do you guys think? I dont know were else to get it in New brunswick.
  2. Hey Pat , im glad u decided to be a member and get in on the action. It is after all you that introduced me to the site and im glad u did. If you got questions this is the place to get solid answers. Eric
  3. Pat is that you? I just cant see that theres another smith in Richibucto lol. Im glad u joined IFI because here is were i get most all my information. Cya around:D
  4. Wait for summer lol. But seriously right now there is no heat in the shop so i dress real warm and when you really dig in your work it takes only 15 -30 minutes to start sweating. Il preheat the anvil if its to cold. I have a stove in there already and i garranty you it will be installed before next winter. I admit cold hands are not fun in the shop and so are gloves;)
  5. Nice chopper, did you make a sheath for it? Is that a beach tree in the background?
  6. thanks IanR, Since the pictures we have had another foot of the white gold but sometimes i wish i was in Oz to get away from it. Actually making a clinker buster is not hard but then you got to find time to do it and correct me if im wrong but youl likely save more time in the long run than the couple hours it takes to make one.
  7. Ironrose, What do you guys fabricate? Im just curious.
  8. wow thats a masterpiece,A plus.
  9. To sum it up i do, Gardening, Sylviculture to groom up my forest, woodcarving, hobby carpentry, hiking, Using my axe or kukri to make hiking trails that run for milles along the river or in the middle of noware. Do some 4x4 in my chev shorty with a little brew. I pick alot of rocks in various pits and along the road for walkways and other rock projects like my last one i covered the front floor portion of my cabin with flat sandstone and cement in between in an attemp to harvest the suns energy. And of course i cant wait for the snow to melt so i can go scrounging for iron.
  10. Thats great, Your making good progress. Are you going to put a clinker breaker? I wish i put one in mine but itl do fine for now. How deep is the drum? Mine was 2 3/4 and i find it to be on the shallow side but yours looks deeper so it should be fine. All in all i think thats going to be a good forge that will serve you for years. I found out that its best NOT to weld the firepot to the table because of heat expansion. Although i only had about 5 one inch tack welds around my pot, I could hear them rip apart when i fired up the forge because the force of expanding, contracting metal is considerable. Other than that i think your good to go.
  11. Awesome, These are great. As crazy as it sounds, What is a bottle stopper?
  12. Did you try em yet? How do they move steel? we need an update:D
  13. way to many red flags im with aso all the way, but im im far from being an anvil expert. 1 Look at the base, Compared to real anvils in the back ground, it looks like they ran out of steel, but they didnt as it looks like it was cast in 2 parts and joined at the waste. Poor, ugly base. 2 Look closely at the 8th picture with the two hardy holes, the edge seems mushromed or dented and the dent is sticking up, which leads me to believe that it tipped on another anvil, Which leads me to believe the face is not hardend at all because anvils dont dent like nails. 3 the 2 hardy holes look cast , is that a casting flaw in the 7th picture? the inside corner looks like there is a small lip. 4 its brand new and it looks just like the old ones in the back ground. 5 the last picture. Looks like the face is not even centered and there is a big chip on the left side of the face, about1/4 inch from the surface? Usually the chips are on the top corners of the face, Which leads me to believe it was an air bubble trapped in a cheap casting..
  14. Have fun and i hope your back dont ruin it for you, but im sure the pain will be aliviated when you see molten iron:D Take pictures to share with us;)

Good to hear that! I know how it feels to have an eye injury and how it affected me. If it makes you feel better i wanted to tell you that the eye is the fastest healing body part. Good luck with everything.
  16. Sweet shop, same size as mine. I like that brick forge and it should serve you a long time. If smoke escapes from your flue it might be because its a tad to big versus your chimny size. Happy forging:D
  17. Did you put a finish on it? beeswax? By simple forging technique do you mean that the collar simplifies the whole process by keeping everything in line? Or is that just the wires job? I need a chandelier for my camp and i might try this tecnique. thanks
  18. Most my inspiration comes from being able to make my own tools that would otherwise cost thousands in the long run. This website and everyone who uses and the guys that run this place are inspirations because they go out of there way to help you and set your questions strait. Its all about sharing ideas, Giving and recieving knowlege so its not lost in your grave..
  19. Nice piece, thanks for sharing. I like your nail header if that what u call it. Is that one of the hammers you made?
  20. I hope its not a ASO. That thick plate on top raises questions in my head.
  21. lol.. I was looking at old texas drilling rigs to see if i could spot that piece but i was unable to get close up photographs. This is like CSI for metal, i like it.

I thought of another aproach, Make him write an essay about what he did and make him read it in front of the class or the school. That will make him think about what he did. I agree he is misguided but alot of times these kids get hit by the parents and in return think its the way to deal with it. Only the forehead is stronger than the hand, Its the strongest bone in the body.
  23. Thats why u would put a piece of wax paper between the anvil and the glue..like frosty said.

Sorry to hear, Bullies are nothing more than weaklings trying to prove otherwise. I would Bring him to court and sue him for damages, or give him a taste of his own medicine, But then he might bring you to court:( Hope it heals well and quick so you can resume beating on some steel:)
  25. Were did you find it? Was it deep in the woods ? an old industrial part of town? Close to a mining operation? I think if you find out were it came from that would help.
