  1. Thanks for all the suggestions! Beth yes it will be two sided. As far as building code goes their is no restriction because their is no fall or swiming pool hazards. Once it is finished there will be no real hand or foot holds anyway. This gate will be left open most of the time anyway as it heads to the school office. Eric, Their are some planned.
  2. Here is a sneak peek of a gate I am doing. It will be covered with 20 roses and 100 leaves. If anyone has any suggestions, now is the time to make some changes. I still have about 75 leaves to forge up and a dozen roses to make.
  3. Looks like it is working well. Nice job!
  4. Around the middle. I have also seen 55 drum with a arch cut in it and used as a side draft hood on a flat table forge.
  5. I have been in a shop where they cut a 55 gal. drum in half and hug it over the forge. Looked like it worked good for them
  6. I agree with you. A spicy breakfest is a great way to start. Lots of hot salsa on my eggs. No shortage of good Mexican food around here, but it is hard to find a good Italian restaurant.
  7. Your shop is shaping up very nice. Can't help but notice the flamable material under the bench and on the ground near your welding table. Beware! I am speaking from experience here. ;)
  8. Randy, I picked up "The New Drawing On The Right Side Of the Brain" yesterday. I found it at a used book store for $8.50 in very good shape. I started to read it and like it. Now to start to practice.
  9. I also have a tendency to work in organized choas. <_<
  10. Thanks! I will be down loading this one and listening to alot today.
  11. Very nice gate! I have never seen Trilliums forge before.
  12. Right on brother! Thats were I throw everthing not flamable. ;)
  13. I only have 33,000 on mine and it's a 2006. Not even broke in. Some have told me once I get more miles on it I will get better mileage. I can't believe it but it looks like you may be right.
  14. Enjoyed the story and I love the end results.
  15. Fewood, I never seem to get that kind of mileage with my Cummins. I hear people talk about it all the time. I guess I'm kicking in the turbo to much. I usually only get about 18 to 19 hwy and 15 to 16 in the city but thats 4wd too. Still good for a big truck. I'm running a modified air box with open exhaust with a 5" stack also.
  16. I agree with everyone else here. Heavier is better. Your support frame is very inportant if you are going to go with a lighter plate. Build it stout. How ever I would suggest not putting a shelf underneath. They always end up being a catch all. If you really want one, use expanded metal for the shelf material. This will help keep the scale, dirt and grinding debree from building up.
  17. I do have 3 of his books and do enjoy them. All three are in french, german, and english.
  18. Like you I have been TIG welding for a long time. My advise to you would be cover up. Ultra violet radiation is very strong with any welding process. I am fare skin so I burn easy. I have had friends who use SPF 50 sun screen and weld in a T-shirt. and they seem fine. I would not recommend it. Skin cancer is something definately to be considered here. I have done some very high amperage of aluminum for months on end we are talking 300 amps and up and at the end on the day my chest will still be red and have the smell of cooked skin, and that is with a green coat and t-shirt underneath.
  19. I was told early on to be proud of the first items you make even if they do not look the best. We all start somewhere. I always keep my first attempts to show people. Then show them what I can do now and tell them the only difference between the two is more practice.
