  1. Or be trying to sell it on eBay for some amazing price :)
  2. That looks like the BBQ from xxxx!! Good job, make sure you give us an update of how it goes.
  3. I think I would be venting any forge. They put out lots of nasty gases and you don't want a room full of students in the same room with no ventillation.
  4. That would be what the hardie hole (square one) is for. Make the mould with a base that fits into the hardie hole and away you go. Same goes for the cutter. Eventually you end up with LOTS of these tools but that is the fun of forging.
  5. Welcome to IFI. Plenty to get you started here :)
  6. Welcome to IFI Dunstan from Down Under :)
  7. Welcome to IFI, I'm sure you will have plenty of input for us.
  8. Welcome to IFI Andy. You have found the best place for getting started and interested that I could imagine.
  9. Great desing that I am going to "steal" and as Philip said the ball pein hammer is very useful :)
  10. Another farrier Its an amazingly common mistake made by most people that any farrier is a blacksmith. Just mention you can shoe a horse and they start pointing you to the forge for all sorts of things. Life is a great learning curve and this site sure helps that curve. Welcome to IFI.
  11. Good ideas above. A masonary forge is like an observatory in astronomy, you only build one in the location you are well and truely settled into. they would be a right $%^*_+&^ to move :)
  12. Look forward to your input, welcome to IFI.
  13. Looks a pretty basic design for a solid fuel forge but a few large hole in the bottom of the wok would be better and an ash dump in the bottom of the dish. Add some sandy mud and you are away. Have a look in the Blueprints for ideas.
  14. Over here most of the "good" stuff is in the antique shops or on eBay for ridiculous prices so its a case of make your own very often. However, the hardest thing we can't make ourselves is to get good coal.
  15. Know how you feel. I haven't had any forge time for a few weeks now and you really miss your hobbies very quickly.
  16. Sounds like you have a good starting plan. Now its practice, practice, practice. BTW welcome to IFI :)
  17. Welcome to IFI. Pull up a stump and start reading :)
  18. Welcome to IFI. Have a look at this site for some great info on gas forges.
  19. Welcome to IFI, friendly crew here with lots of info.
  20. Welcome to IFI, lots of great info here.
  21. That's one serious knife. I envy you your stock of deer antler.
  22. They last a long time as hot files after the farrier does not want them any more. Better than a standard file IMO. When they are no good for that use use them to make anything that needs a hig carbon steel. Have fun.....
  23. Its all been said. Make sure its easy to fit and get out so a bit of slop is good but not too much or lining it up on your work gets harder. As for material, if you can get an old axle or torsion bar make the whole thing out of this, especially if you got it for a good price :)
  24. Welcome to IFI. Spend a lot of time in the Getting Started section then progress to the easier Blueprints and you will be off and running.
