This is my first split cross I have made after about 5 atemps.

You ar looking at a 3 sided vase made of 1/8in steel, my first rose to ever make, and my first Calla Lilly ever make. The rose petals are made of 1/8in steel, the stem 3/8in round rod, and the leaves 3/8in round rod. The calla lilly if made of 1/8in steel, stem 3/8in round rod, and the leaf is made of 1/2in round rod. It took me about 10 hours to make this entire set. It took a lot of time, but it was FUN.

This my first project that I ever made. I was working for a guy in a oramental iron shop before if got married. I wasn't making much money so I couldn't buy my wife a big fancey gift. So I came up with the idea of making her favorite flower, the Tullip. With a some help from the guy I was working for I made these. The tullip petals are made out of a copper sheet, the stems are 3/8in round stock, the leaves are 3/8in round stock, and the stand is 1/2in square stock that was prerolled. I have now been blacksmithing for 2 years as a hobby and I love it.

I have a Haybutton anvil and the edges are getting worn pretty badly. I have been told to mig weld the edges and grind the excess off. What are some ways I could repair my anvil?

I'm a union pipe welder and most pipeliner I know use 1/8in 6010. They downhill it all the way out. If your wanting to learn to weld, I would try a welding school or a local union hall apprenticeship program.

I am Union Pipe Welder and understand how agervating it can be. I usually use a #10 cup. Hold the cup at about a 45 degree angle with your tungston sticky out about a 1/16 of a in. When you grip the torch, grip it lightly ( I use my thumb, index finger, and my middle finger). Try not to put pressure on the cup. I believe you may be comming too far up on the egde of your bevil, which is causing your stringer to suck back. Try to stay on the filler wire, you just want to touch the egde of each side. I also like to put and a nickle land on metal. It seems like you can carry a little more heat to me. If you can get a spare torch, go home and practice while you watching tv. Sometimes when your in a boot you can get a little tence, at home you are relaxed and motion will come second nature when your in the boot. I hope this helps.

I learned to weld through welding school. I was junior in high school we had the oppertunity to attend a tech to learn a trade.

I mostly use a Lincoln 140 mig welder with 75% Argon, and 25% Co2 shielding gas. I also have a Victor Oxy/Acet setup.

I have been welding for about 8 years. A auto darkening lens helps alot when others are welding around you, but sometimes you have to keep your hood up when you have to put things together. Sometimes I wear dark safety glasses to help with the flashes. If you have a white wall, consider putting up a dark fire blanket. When I burn my eyes I use a lubricating eye drop that is like a gel to sooth the burn in my eyes. You can buy these eye drops over the counter.
