Frosty, you'd have to fry doughnuts for awhile before you'd get that doughnut smell. You could always get used oil from an oriental food place and have the shop smell like a wok..... ^_^

Michigan Blacksmithing Coal
rthibeau replied to Smithc11369's topic in Solid Fuels: Coal, Coke, Charcoal, Wood, etc
I switched from coal to coke and had a ton of L Brand coke shipped in....cost about $725 delivered on a pallet. Always an option if all else fails. -
I've used 1144 for various purposes and never had a problem....of course, I didn't know I couldn't or shouldn't....as always, YMMV....give it a go and then you'll know.

"...a good price..." someone once said that it takes money to blacksmith.... :) I built a press following Batson's book (mentioned above). It came out to about 20 ton and all new parts cost me about $1200 USD, I built the framework from stuff on hand. I thought it had plenty of power and speed was good to make hammers, etc.

hey....if it was made by a blacksmith........ya just never know.... :)

methinks picket lines for horses were simply a rope tied to two trees and the horses tied to that rope. mayhaps a manual bear trap????
